What is this for?

This lovely piece of clear 3M protective film came with my bike and I can't figure out where it goes. It really doesn't seem to fit anywhere and I'm unable to find anything in the books on it. Anyone figure this out?



Also wondering if maybe there should be an 06 discussion room on the board now? Just glancing here briefly a minute ago and there were quite a few posts about the 06s. Maybe the rest of the owners are getting a bit bored/tired of seeing and reading about them? Just a thought. Sorry, I'm an organizer!

I got the 4 small ones for the holes on top. This goes underneath where the locking clip from the luggage goes in.

TWN....that would depend on whether it's 3M or not...I've had 3M on mine since new & they claim it won't yellow....if its a copy or off brand then it probably will :blink: ....unless Yamaha will verify I think your rolling the dice

If you apply them correctly, it will help:

Make sure surface is extremely clean, as well as your hands. Mine have fingerprints form the asshat dealer that installed them.

Mix up a 50/50 or so solution of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water and put it in a spray bottle. Use this to clean the surface, your fingers, AND to thoroughly coat the 3M clear adhesive protector AFTER you have removed it from the paper backing. This won't degrade the adhesive properties, and will make sure everything is nice and clean, and make's it easier to install.

Yes, I will admit, my FJR is no longer the shiny new virgin. Shit happens in 2.5 years and 65,000 miles of RIDING.

I threw away the ones for the bottom and only used the 4 on top. They haven't discolored after 2 1/2 years and there are no scratches. If they do turn yellow I'll just peel them off.

Those fit the bottom opening on the '03-'05, but don't fit the '06. We left them in the side cases in case you wanted them
