There is a flat chrome plate mounted on both sides of my 2007 FJR just behind and parallel to the passenger's foot pegs. They are about 1 inch by 2 inch and seem to have no practical use. What ARE they used for?

Thanks?

Antennas for Big Brother's Eye in the Sky...

...or maybe to prevent your passenger's heel from touching the muffler. You decide.

Aww man, why couldn't you have posted this on friday????

Only thing I can think they are good for are assisting in keeping the pillion rider's feet off the mufflers.

Hey the guy had a question! Come on mega posters, help!

I'll try to help. At mach 3, those little deflectors keep the extreme heat from burning your legs off during reentry.

Is reentry a $1.50 word?

Next....

His question was already answered. Besides, he included all the pertinent info, posed a unique question and even spelled 'parallel' correctly. How can I bust on a guy given those facts? He gets a by from me.

Good job, noob! :good:

Ok, Ok, Ok. I knew I would get monkey pilled for asking but I DID search around before I posted and did not find anything.

I'll be scratching some of your names off my Christmas list.

Come on guys give him a straight answer. Those are muffler protectors connect to the exhaust manifold through a sensor that will shut your machine down when overheating in traffic. This happens frequently and you should always carry an extra gallon of anti-freeze/water mix in you bags so you can replace the fluids after overheating. Search "Over+heating+sensor".

Dude, thanks for the straight scoop. I've only been carrying water in my gallon jug.

Word on the street is there is an ex-Buell engineer now working on the Yammie design team. The rumor is he initiated this design piece since it keeps the bike in perfect balance. If this were not on the bike then the fjr would have a lean, ever so slightly, towards that side.
