I use the uber-rare Havoline Dex-Cool found in the ultra-chic boutique Al's/Shucks/Kragen/Checker/Pep Boys. It has dichromated unobtanium and guarantees 2.72 more kilocalories per picoenthalpy heat transfer than regular Dihydrogen Monoxide. I prefer it in the 3.785 liter polyethylene container.

BMWs use it as a final drive lubricant so that's all I need to know that it's going to work on FJR engines.

Patriot, send me a batch of your best gumbo and some boudin balls and I will let you in on the secret.

The Honda Pre-mix stuff. Readily available and cheap compared to those fancy-schmancy marketing ploys you linked to.

I have read a few bad reviews and heard from people on the forum that I should not use Engine Ice. I already bought the Engine Ice so I called North County Yamaha and talked with them and they said I could return it. I was going to swap it out for either the Yamaha stuff or Coolanol. What do you all recommend?

What kind of coolant do you Feejers recommend ???, Engine Ice? Coolinol? Something Else?Coolanol

Engine Ice
What do you all recommend?
Is there anything specific I need to know when picking out a coolant for a bike?
Is there anything specific you're trying to achieve with a coolant change?

MamaYama reccos:

"High-quality ethylene glycol w/corrosion inhibitors for alu engines."

"Use only distilled water." "If not available, soft water may be used."

"Ratio -- 1 : 1 (antifreeze : water)"

Another bloody commodity. Get the stuff that doesn't corrode and you're good to go. Change it often and you'll have even less problems. So many threads and discussions on this, it's enough to make you park the bike. ;)

Yah, and interesting that YamaCool is formulated 60/40 coolant to water. Kinda curious, not that 10 points matters much...

Is this the stuff that the dog can drink

or is this the stuff that kills the dog.

Search under "dead dog" didn't bring anything up

...or should I have tried "dead BMW rear drives?"

I've been driving around (not much) in my truck listening to gallon of pre-mix bounce around in the back footwell everytime I turn a corner.

Problem is, when ever its nice enough to change the coolant, f'ack that! I'm going for a ride!

... maybe this weekend.
