Ride faster, you'll never hear the whine because all of the sound will be behind you. You do have to be careful when you slow down and it catches back up.

I'm glad I don't do "bitch" so I don't have that whine. Yet I'm very happy to hear that my FJR's whine is a good whine. I love that bike to death, can't have enough of her, she is a true long hauler but can be a racer if you need her to be one.
I do agree a FJR is not a crotch rocket, yet she's the guts of one and I hold that totally up high for her. I've got a Gixxer 750, that's a true crotch rocket and more than one hour and my family jewels are screaming at me. I could never do with her what I can do with my FJR. But I love to have 'em both, as I have the tops ends of two worlds and can choose when I have a itch, which needs to be scratched. The acceleration of my Gixxer above 7K RPM and short before redlining is just infernal and second to non, yet my FJR and her power out of low RPM's is just a symphony to my ears.

Just to keep this old thread alive, and kicking...another guy I sometimes ride with (Greb) has an '08, same as mine, about same mileage. Mine has quite a bit more "whine" than his for some reason. The whine used to bug me but after him telling me he wishes his had a louder whine like mine, I've grown to appreciate it. They definitely have a unique sound.

OK I'll bite. I think you might be referring to the addictive high pitch whirring sound that motors make usually in the range of 7 or so thousand rpm's and up. Usually a crotch rocket style bike or Indy style race car. Music to my ears! PM.
