if you did not attend eom 2007, and want to know what you missed:

in the below picture, behind the lovely, and now new forum member, angela (mrs quicksilver) you will see tons of gravel in the turn of the road...

EVERY corner, turn, twisty in west virginia had this stuff on it...

cynic that i am, i think the locals throw it out on the road, in between welcoming everybody with warm smiles... but, that's just me...

...and here I thought it got scattered on the road when they weaved off on the shoulder after crossing the center line.

So that's what those coal shovels in the back of the pick-ups are for.

I'd rather ride in WV than in NC, there is less gravel in WV than NC, and I thought it was smaller, I didn't see any of that #2 composite stuff.

Naw, the NC stuff is smaller!

I enjoyed it...thanks for the inside info.

you miss seldom scene, you miss seldom scene!!!

none of my words could ever convey their awesome music...

i could tell you about the drunk in front of fialdj and i that wanted to come over the seats and kick my ass for asking if "y'all were gonna talk during the whole show"...

but, i won't mention it as not to hijack my own thread...

i will mention the elderly lady to my right that was, by her telling me, mostly deaf... she said she'd loved bluegrass all her life, and loved seldom scene since their inception!!! she was a bit distraught that she might not be able to read their lips from her vantage point, and the venue was sold out to move her closer...

i thought it a shame that carnige hall (w.va.) only issued a mono assisted listening device...

if we do eom in lewisburg again, please please, i'd hope an fjr owner and i might give back to the community by helping carnige hall obtain stereo assisted listening devices via contacting vendors and helping with grant writing...

fock, hijacked my thread anyhow... lol...

you miss seldom scene, you miss seldom scene!!!
thank you for the "rest of the story"!

When I see her, I'll mention improved listening devices to the carnegie hall director.

Rode about two hundred miles of gravel laden mountain back roads this afternoon just for the fun of it. Hijack over.

Hope to see you next year!

Don't be sore that we complain about the gravel. There had to be something or other to complain about! Me? I just keep my elbows out and let the bike do it's wiggle thing in the gravel. That mud on the highway into Paint Bank, now that was new to my FJR, oh wait that was Virginia, never mind

I first heard the Seldom Scene back in, guessing, 1978. The last time I heard them was at some Appalacian cultural festival. They played off in one corner and, fortunately, not too many people noticed. I was able to get a hay bale right in the front row. They're a great group to see in person.

I rode up to Thomas, WV, mostly on 50 (what a great ride) a few weeks ago to see Chatham County Line play. Here's a sample:

I bought all three of their CDs. Good stuff.

I totally get the comment about the drunk who wouldn't shut up. I had a similar experience trying to watch John Hiatt play.

I would like to comment that there WAS NOT gravel in EVERY turn.

Only the blind 25MPH turns seemed to have gravel. Also, occasionally a few tight 30 MPH turns had a bit too, but it really only seemed to be in the ones to make it the most interesting.

Oh, Cmon you flatlander wuss. That's not even close to true. Gravel freaks me out... & I can say for sure that there was some... but not even close to every corner.

Perhaps it's all in the mind of the flatlander????

I'm a flatlander wuss, and I resent all you flatlander wusses giving us a bad name. The roads were great...I'll remember to sweep the pebble or two off the road for you guys...just before you guys arrive next time.....not. :)

FYI Wheaties... I'm a flatlander, too. Just not a wuss. I visit the mountains frequently... as you do, also. Now Dana? Actually making a post and announcing that he's a flatlander wuss? Dude!

I can’t complain about gravel in the corners. Heck, it was whole lot better than the sand and the mud on that cowpath they called county road 31 or whatever it was. Seems a shame, though, I missed the cultural enrichment program cause I was out riding.

Seeing gravel in the turns is a side affect of GOING TO SLOW!! Come on people, sheeesh... :glare:

exactly!!! and since soflo has zero interesting roads (not counting the meth addicts and blue hairs), EVERY turn was interesting to me... ;)

call me a 'flatlander wuss' all you want... but, i'm an ALIVE wuss... if i were a dead wuss from the w va roads, i'd come haunt your dreams... you've seen me... not a pretty picture... lol...

dana

So, now you're admitting to being a flatlander wuss?
