Seemed like you were on hiatus for a while, Rad. Good to see you back posting again. And thanks for the tip -- I think I'll shitcan those NGK iridiums I've been running and try out the Champions you suggest. ;)

Ha, ha: I love your sense of humor, radman! Owned a 1950 Lincoln two door with 239 C.I. Flathead and know H-10's well!
I hate to be picky Don but a 50 Lincoln should have had the 337 C. I. Flathead. They wanted to produce a V12 for 49 but couldn't get it produced so the truck motor was adapted for passenger car use But the sparks plugs are the same and I just checked my 48 coupe and it has them also.

NGKs. Good for 29000 miles. Best damn plug out there.
I'm pretty sure that Bluestreek had 55K miles on his OEM plugs when he had Roseville Yamaha service the bike before his trip to CFR and Prudhoe Bay last summer. The similarly unserviced front forks had started leaking about the same time, which motivated the trip to the service department of our favorite dealership.

OK Fred, enough joking around from me. In my used parts bin, all I can find is a set of DENSO U24ESR-N plugs. But they're in NGK CR8E boxes. Near as I can figure, these are the plugs I took out on second change. I think the first change was done by the dealer when the TPS recall was done. So maybe dealer installed the Denso's and I replaced with NGKs. So I can't truthfully answer you poll.

Regardless, Ive never noticed any difference along the way between plug types. They never see 20K miles- Sounds like thats when performance differences may become detectable.

Only a few more weeks of this wintry stuff and we'll be out there riding again and won't be inside discussing spark plugs. Yea!

Just a point of clarification on this highly impotent poll...

(I am an old faht so it's OK to make fun of us, Russ!)

I'm only trying to determine if Yamaha ever shipped an FJR with anything other than the standard NGK CR8E plugs. I speculate that the answer is no, but with out sufficient data, how can we know?

I'm sure that you could jam any number of alternate plugs in there (including the ever popular NGK CR8EIX) and it would continue to combust (internally) just as designed. I just want to know if NGK is/was the only stock plug, or if they switch vendors (seemingly at will) like they do with tahrs.

Thank you.

You're absolutely right, FJRay! As I typed it yesterday, something bugged me, I remembered it was indeed a 337 C. I. Flathead as I got up to take my 2 AM piss; that the Ford's got the 239's. Actually, wasn't it something like 336.5 C.I.; I remember it was a real oddball to get parts for. It had twin water pumps, which was a real wierd lashup. Odder yet, it had a LaSalle automatic transmission in it, which is really strange, because that was produced by the General Motors Corporation!

I bought it from the original owner in Morro Bay, so I knew it hadn't been dinked with. Ex-wife owns it and my beach house!!!
