What size Avon Storm tire is best

I am due for a new set of tries for a long trip this summer. I am looking to buy the Avon Storms. I currently have the original Metz Z6's on my bike. Should I get the same size tires (ie. go by the numbers listed on the side walls) that were standard on my 05 or is there another size that would be better. I know most tire questions get moved to the never ending pointless thread category, if so, I apologize for posting here, but as a newbie I am just trying to learn what I can from people who have done this before.
