I'm out in Michigan touring right now with the side bags fully loaded and a Givi top box fully loaded.

Been cruising at 75-80 all day long without any adverse handling issues, however there are not a whole lot of curvy roads in MI. I wouldn't worry about it, pack your bags and go.

It's the litigatious world we live in. Every company has to cover their *** because someone will certainly try to sue them when something goes wrong even though in all likelyhood it was their own damn fault.

"I know a guy" who is said to have done 145 mph indicated with wife on back, side bags loaded, tank bag loaded, early Sunday morning, no traffic, clear field of vision for three miles or so: Bike was working hard, running out of breath, but was steady as a rock.
This "guy" was of course not me.
Did the guy's wife make him do it?

Allegedly, some guy who looks kinda like me had his GPS record 156 MPH out in the middle of nowhere in far west Texas on the way to Big Bend a year or so ago. He didn't notice much of a stability change, but then Skooter/Flipper are the subject-matter experts there...

I just noticed (I know, you should read all the instructions first, that Mother Yamaha recommeds that you do not exceed 85 mph with side bags on the bike as this will cause handling problems. Has anyone run into this? I've hit the ton with them on, and noticed no change in how the bike handled.

YOUR BIKE IS DEFECTIVE!!!! Mine says 185mph so I never gave it a second thought  I just figured that they set the Rev limiter at 150 just so the bags wouldnt have any problems

Just back from a run from No. OC CA to Spokane WA and back. On the way to Tonapah ran a 144 and 142 (pictured) with side bags and Givi V46 topcase on an '05 'fast blue'. The second run of 142 had a pucker factor as I came into a little valley and got hit with a cross wind... got my attention but kept running in the 130's till she straightend out a bit. :D Ran 100+ for mile after mile no problems.

The little guy on the right gives a small sense of security when running at speed.

Side note: MPG when running fast (80 - 120 mph) was ~ 39 MPG... <80 was about 43 MPG... when running with my Hardly Davidson friends it was about 46 MPG. :p

135 according to the GPS (on a closed course of course). Still had both at the end of the run.

I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy (because I would never exceed the posted limit) who says..........

Riding solo with bags loaded and the factory top box it gets squirrelly at 123 to 125 mph, bags loaded with no top box stable at 140+.

Boy I sure know it wasn't me. I know because I'd be lucky if my wife only ripped my 'nads off for doing that with her on the bike.

That said, I've never had...errr, I've never heard of handling problems with the side bags on and overloaded up to 140ish. Just ordered my Shad top box today--I bet that will change with the top box on.
