I would like to find a switch that would allow me to operate the Aux lights independently of each other, or together when I want to. Hella Micro De

Is a Warchild **** box required?

Do I need a toggle switch with 3 positions? Left light on, both lights on, right light on. Then wire this 3 position switch (somehow) to an on/off switch?

What do you recommend? Wire diagrams appreciated. What brands of switch?

Thanks

What is one of these??????

My '05 had a 3-position "rocker" type switch installed by the last guy that lets me leave the aux lights (Hellas) off, always on, or on just with the high beams, otherwise off. I guess you have a reason to only want to have L or R on at a time, but I can't quite guess what. I think I'll be back in under the panels in the next couple of weeks if you need a little extra info.

I think Sacramento Mike is correct when he ask's: why left and right. All I want is one light on or both lights on and an on/off switch that will shut them off in either position.

Would an Electrical Connection dpdt switch (one light/both lights) connected to an on/off switch be the way to go?

If so, how do I wire it.

Thanks

Yep!Hot lead through the on/of switch to the SPDT switch.

I could wire it but I can't draw the diagram.

Can anyone diagram this for me.

I want an on/off switch on the left handlebar.

I want a switch on the left faring that allows me to decide if I want to send power to one light or power to both lights.

The switch on the handlebar turns the aux light/s on or off no mater what position the other switch is in.

Depending on which position the faring switch is left in, the on/off switch will be controling either one light or both lights.

Is the switch SPDT or DPDT? (Whatever that means) How do I wire one of these?

Please save me from myself....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switch scroll down and the definitions are given for each switch.

For example: "A single-throw switch has one position that closes contacts, a double-throw switch has two position, and so on."

You're going to want a single pole single throw for the handlebar (on and off) and a double post double throw to activate one light or both. One side of the 2nd switch would illuminate one light, the other side of the switch would illuminate both lights.

I'll buy a dpdt switch on Tuesday. Believe it or not, even with all this help, I'm still sketchy as to the wire configuration from the Hid ballast's to the dpdt switch. In a way to have either one hid on or have both hids on.

Each Ballast has two wires coming out of it. A blue (hot) and a brown (ground). The harness that came with the lights has these two hot's connected to fuses and then connect to the relay.

I understand that the dpdt switch I'm getting (Electrical Connections from Calif Sport Tour) has: on, off, on. Acting like two spst switches.

I need a wiring diagram or explanation of the wiring from the dpdt switch to the ballasts. I understand how to get one light on. But how do you wire it so that when you flip the dpdt switch to the other side you get both lights on?

The plan is to turn the dpdt switch "on" with a handlebar mounted spst switch. If I have two hots coming from the relay, can I put 'em together to going into the spst and split 'em back into two hots coming out. Does this not seem odd. Should the switch be installed before the relay? Is a different switch in order? dpst? Yikes

Have the DPDT switch control the relays and the relays control the ballasts.

Most people wire the driving lights to come on TOGETHER, so that's the way the diagrams show to wire them.

Since you want them connected separately, you need to wire them as single units, so:

1 spst switch on handle bar for power to the second switches for the driving lamps.

1 spst switch for each lamp. The lamp spst switch will power each relay for each ballast.

That way your main "on-off" switch will be on the handlebars.

Each driving lamp will be controlled by it's own switch, keeping them as single lamps unless both switches are thrown.

It is possibe to wire them through a dpdt switch but you'd have to include diodes to keep the power from feeding back. MUCH easier to wire each lamp as a separate unit with the individual control switches powered by the "master" handle bar switch.

Clear as mud?
