What type of oil do you use?

I am looking for a good aftermarket oil for my 2006 FJR. I have 9,000 miles on the bike and know that there has to be something better than the Yamalube 20w-40. I am in North Carolina and the temperature is in the upper 80's low 90's. If someone can point me in the right direction, that would be great. I am sure it is on this forum somewhere, but I couldn't find it. Thanks.

p.s. Any recommendations on final gear oil while we are at it?

There is an endless discussion going on regarding this topic. I suggest you head over to this area of the forum NEPRT Area and read away until you can read no more.

For the engine, there are many auto spec oil choices as long as you don't use the energy conserving type as this will eff up the wet clutch that shares the same oil as the motor. I use either Mobil 1 15w-50 synthetic or the Shell Rotella 5w-40 synthetic

As for the final drive, many use the Mobil 75w90 synthetic gear oil with no issues.

Unless I'm feeling kinda frisky then I go with the KY Massage Oil. It comes in various strengths

after 5,000 miles in my 2000 gmc 5.8L, i recycle the oil to the fjr, then from the fjr to my lawn mower...

i use advanced autoparts store brand heavy duty oil...

Rumors suggest Mobil1 has bought the company, so we can expect a better performing synthetic version soon, though the word on the street is that all versions will have friction modifiers, for obvious reasons.

I always use new oil.

I presently use Shell Rotella T Synth. Not sure why. Maybe because it sounds so exotic. It's definitely got to be the

best out there. I buy mine at Wally World. Gee, sure hope it's not made in China :dribble:

Probably whoever they chose to sub it out to. Last I heard some time back, it was Kendall, but who knows or who cares?

As long as my motors don't blow up, I sure don't.

I haven't used Yamalube (or Hondaline) for a while, so I don't know if it's expensive or not. I know that the price of oil is increasing across the board. I use Valvoline in my cars and it's over thirty bucks a case.

One reason I use the Rotella is that WallyWorld is open 7/24. They also sell filters branded Super Tech and the ST6607 that fits my GL1800 is around $2.50 ea. Made by Champion, it is the same as the Bosch and the Pureolator filters, just a different name. The Honda filter is expensive, just like the Genuine Yamaha filter. I use one of those Scott filters on the FJR, but I think I will go back to paper filters. Better filtration w/o the fuss and muss. I wonder if Wally World's SuperTech filters fit the FJR. I'll have to reasearch that.

After a gruesome search of about 30 seconds I came upon this OIL THREAD which contains just about everything one would wish to know about lube oils, including Rotella T...Towards the bottom of the thread it focuses on motorcycles.

BTW, I worked in the petroleum industry and purchased the **** that was left over from cracking out the lub oil stock from crude. I would buy it by the railcar when I could get my hands on it.

I always lube the BBQ grill with vegetable oil (olive or canola) before I put the meat on.

It is a sure fire way of making it non-stick.

Just slather bacon grease on everything. No stick and animal fat is soooo Yummy!
