What's in your airbox?

I picked up a 2006 FJR on tuesday. All excited I called one of my good friends to tell him about my new score. A few years ago he bought a used Honda VFR, after his first ride he parked it in the garage and his wife came out and ask him what that awfull smell was, long story short he found a dead mouse in his air box. So we have an ongoing joke when ever any of our friends gets a used bike we tell them to check the airbox. So as I am hanging up the phone he ask me if I have checked the airbox!!! Well today was real cold so after a short ride I decied to get to know my new bike, better in my garage than on the side of the road. I pull out the owners manual, set the clock, check the fuses so I know where and how to get at them, check the brake pads, oil level, tool box, and airbox.... and look what I found in the air filter. Not sure if this was left by a bird or a mouse but I hope the PO was getting rent!!!

Wow! You know I had some stuff under the seat of my bike when I got it. It had been sitting up for a while, I'll check mine tomorrow. That's crazy!!!

Yep...the stuff of legends here on the forum.

More than one bike that sits for extended times has found much the same when opeining the airbox cover.

Congrats on your bike and Thanks for sharing this great story...it made my snowed in night!

Some have put on a large mech screen over the snorkel to keep the varmits out of the box.

A few years back we had a guy call us to tow in his Mazda rx7 that had been sitting. The chipmunks in the area decided to eat through the air filter and make more room. This thing had nut shells packed all the way into the intake plenum. After cleaning out all we could with a wet dry vac (the owner did not want to pay for removing the intake)we fired it up. It was blowing sparks out the exhaust for about the 1st hour. Then when the mechanic took a test ride it blew a fireball out the back. It was hilarious. :yahoo:

Likewise with my friend's Blackbird..We went out for an early spring ride and I noticed smoke coming out of one of the cans, soon followed by two foot long flames. It seems that some creeature had stuffed the can with hay and fur and who knows what else. A quick trip thru the gears fixed that problem..

In case you are wondering, those are poison mouse pellets. I'm guessing the stasher sampled what he was stashing and never made it back to retrieve any more. :yahoo:

I once had a couple of grains of corn, which I think somehow got sucked up in a blast around a grain truck in Nebraska.

We were in Wagon Wheel Gap in Colorado a couple of years ago when a friend of mine decided to take his tank off. The rat's nest under it was huge, how it kept from catching on fire on the ride out was beyond me.

Any rat worth his weight, will go thru steel wool, fiber glass, and Brillo pads. Hardware cloth and those real stinkie moth balls are the farmers friend.

If you get a rat worth his salt, he'll make a fine nest in the middle of the most sacred area of wiring in the machine. After chewing all the wires and pissing/shiting on them.

Rats have too chew on hard stuff to keep their teeth worn down. The best defence is a starving pussy and the real strong smelling moth balls.

No wonder that remedy hasn't helped. I've been using a strong smelling pussy and have been starving the mothballs!
