I was in an interesting position tonight and came out unscathed, not sure it would come out the same next time with the same course of action. I was on the way home from work just after midnight. Got the high beams blazing and I am searching for the deer I see almost every night. Then...RIGHT THERE...the glint of eyeballs but they are low. I'm thinking **** so I swing towards the other side of the road as it waddles a few steps onto the pavement. I'm thinking don't do it little critter as I approach and grip my bars a bit firmer. Then its butt swings towards me an my mind screams..SKUNK!!! Everything goes into slow motion. I see him getting ready to fire, his tail comes up, I start to turn away from the blast, check myself there is not enough road, I lean forward behind my shield, dropped two gears and twisted the throttle to the stop, I smell the spray just a hint as I go from 50 to 100 and rip past the little bugger the whole time cowering behind my windscreen waiting for that gaging choking smell to overwhelm me. Two miles down the road I pull into the drive and walk around the bike sniffing everything. Did he get me? Did he get me? Not this time mister skunk and I hope to never see him again!

It's amazing how time stands still during those "Ow ****" moments.

Years ago I was a young fella trying out my best Kenny Roberts form on an old Triumph, cranking around a corner where the weeds and brush had grown up close to the shoulder, I'm hanging off the side as best I could... Same ****... Skunk pops out of the weeds right in front of my eyeballs.

Took forever to get around that corner, don't know for sure who sprayed who the worst.

This is some funny ****................... No idea what I would have done......................... LOL

Good response on your part. Given the same conditions--no oncoming traffic, etc., I would have blasted past as fast as I could. Glad you excaped the stench!

Passed a freshly smeared skunk all over the road coming in just this morning and damn did it reek.

I woulda dun what you done did.

Congrats on the miss!

There are worse things that skunks in this world. When I bought my farm years ago it had an old farm house that had been desserted for years. Some skunks decided to make it home and you could hear them rustling about at night and crawling out but obviously you couldn't seal the holes until they were gone. Sometimes they would get into a pissing contest, or is that spraying contest, with one another leaving an unmistakeable odor.

I would wait at night for them to come out but it took way too much time and was not successful. I finally decided to make a wire tunnel out of chicken wire where they had to go through the tunnel and set a live trap in the tunnel which they had to pass through. Once I would catch one I would go get the trap with them in it and take them out in the pasture about 1/2 a mile away from the house and exterminate them. Never got sprayed once picking them up but I didn't run up at them and yell "BOO" either. Ultimately, I got rid of over 20 skunks from around the house, some trapped, some shot.

WOW I did not know the little buggers were so prolific!

You know, even if he didn't tag you or your bike, the skunk can still call it a victory if your shorts smelled after the encounter!

The ol' gal and I would have gone through the skunk if it had been on the road. She like to play tag with the animals for some reason...
