I'm gonna be riding long and hard to get to and from Kali (IronAsses on the board aside)...so I will probably look to only do 250 to 300 or 350 miles per day on days I'm by myself or with someone guiding me around with a few picture stops. It really depends on how technical the roads are that day. I expect to do more socializing and less riding than that if a NorCal group gets together on that weekend mentioned above.

However, I will ride more (400+) if I have to get to a certain destination for the night if need be. If that is the case though, I usually plan a shorter day the following day.

Regarding where I want to ride, I need to research more on that...but I want to get a taste of the various areas from SF over to Yosemite up to near Yreka and Ureka. If I can't get them all in the time allotted...I'll get as many as I can. Looking for twisties and scenery...think I'll find any? ;)

...if you have some DO NOT MISS areas, please share. :clapping:

But please don't defile me like the poor animals on this board...and no sheep fecking photos either.

As a general idea, given your route up through Carver's neck of the woods and last night before heading east at your uncle's around Sacramento, here's a general suggestion.

I'd continue up the coast along 1, get the roads in the Eureka Area (36, 299, 3, 96, etc.) done, because you really can't miss those. Then either head south out of Yreka to pick up 89 south into the northern Sierras or better -- do 36 east out of Red Bluff to 89 south to Graeagle, then over Gold Lakes Road to 49 into Nevada City, Auburn, etc.

From that point, we'll help you molest the Sierras from there to someplace south of Sonora and all the passes and goodness then open and available, leaving you spent and exhausted a few days later at your uncle's around Sacto. Among other things, that kind of general route gives you the best chance at the great seasonal Sierra passes being open.

It also probably puts you either in Tyler's south bay area or north up the coast (like maybe Fortuna) as the basis for the weekend get together around the May 21 weekend. We all love riding up there!

Wed May18 Breakfast with Dad...then head north...stop in at Creston??

*Stay the night in Creston with dcarver

Thu May19 Head north along coast?

*Let Don have his way with you (so to speak)

Fri May20 Head up to NorCal...camp or motel?/meet with NorCal gathering? Somebody wanna organize??

*Meet up with whoever in Paso Robles - day ride up to the Bay Area through the backroads (lots to choose from) and up 25 into San Jose or thereabouts

Sat May21 camp-motel?/meet/ride with NorCal riders?

*Ride through my backyard with brunch at Alice's - head north and over the GG Bridge and into Marin

Sun May22 camp-motel?/meet/ride with NorCal riders?

*Marin backroads up to the Russian River area or maybe over to Napa or Sonoma

Mon May23 Ride NorCal's great roads

*Wheatie continues north where I will let someone else take over the planning for the farther north regions

Howzat for starters?

Thanks for the great ideas and assistance Rich and Tyler! :clapping:

I'll look to get crackin' on some prelim. destinations/areas...Just curious...Is there a good weekend meet place north of SF but south of Fortuna? I'd rather be north of SF that weekend (though I don't have to be...but if you ask my druthers...that would be it), and can make Fortuna all right...was just curious?

Wheatie, are you on narcotics? You posted this to the Kalifornia "Fruits and Nuts" section of our FJR Forum, for Petey's sake. May the Lord have Mercy on Your Soul!!!

I'll gladly host you for the night as you pass through after Carver's place, we've an extra bedroom available. The Santa Cruz mountians is my back yard ( two minutes from Summit / Skyline ) and my playground and I can escort you up through SF and onto The One on your way north.

WOW.

Just WOW. Thanks! :clapping:

hey, I get a long weekend in May. When will you be near San Fran?

I'll mooch a bed off Tyler and we'll all go get in some trouble.

Sound good?

hehe

I hope you're taking 95 to 24 to 12 to get to Bryce Canyon. Possibly the best ride in all of Utah ! Or at least 24 to 12 to get there. You won't be dissapointd for sure.

Thanks for the tips...definitely doing 24 to 12 to get there... :)

I don't think I will be able to fit 95 in as I am coming from the east side of Denver that morning...and staying about 8 miles south of Boulder Utah...as it presently stands. That's already a shade over 500 miles.

I think you and Tyler can get into trouble without me being anywhere near the area. ;)

Quite frankly don't know if I will be going into SF proper, as that wasn't on my trip itinerary. For me, this trip is about riding the curvy roads in areas away from population centers and meeting as many forum friends from Kali as I can...not getting my freak on in SF.

I'm not commenting on whether it sounds good or not. :p ...besides if you really wanted to arrange trouble you'd use a PM instead of "teasing me with sordid debauchery" out in the public forum.

Come on down though...the more the merrier. I might even have a pillion seat for ya. ;)

My plans had nothing to do with SF proper (but it would be the easiest place for Barb to fly into)... the only SF icon I suggested for you is the Golden Gate Bridge with twisties before and after that. Sheesh... what kind of ride planner do you think I am anyway? Have you no confidence in me?? :glare:

No need for the mean looks there Tyler. :)

My comment wasn't directed towards your suggestions or any specific ride itinerary.

Awesome ! The bottom half of 24 & all of 12 is the best riding in the state, ask anyone whos been there. The section south from the highway is very boring but worth it to get to the rest of the ride. You can stop for a burger & gas in Hanksville & make it the rest of the way easy to Bryce.

Enjoy !
