Just going to throw this out there in case there's anyone who might be interested.....

I'd like to swap my stock black wheels from my '03 ( in perfect condition) for stock wheels off either an '04 or an '05 that are also unblemished. What I'm ultimately after is smitty141's chrome wheels, however, he only wants '04 or '05's in exchange.

Anyone??

Oh sigh, if only the '03 and '04/'05s were directly interchangeable, there is this little issue of brakes... Perhaps this is the root of smitty141's prejudice against the ‘03s.

I thought the wheels WERE directly interchangeable. You're correct in that you cannot use the '03 rotors on the '04-'05 and visa versa, but the '03 rotor should fit the '04-'05 wheel (and visa versa). I'm only looking to swap wheels, not rotors. Actually, smitty141's goal is to return the bike to stock.

.....but thanks for the bump.

Larry is correct. The WHEELS are interchangeable, only needing the appropriate rotors installed.

I will say that the 05 Galaxy Blue looks BAD *** with the black wheels. vectervp1 has an 05 with an extra set of 03 black wheels installed and as much as I didn't like the black wheels when they came on the 03, I think they look great with the blue.

Somebody should get Arty-Farty to post a piccie.

Sorry Sparky, but your a little wrong in your assesment there as usual.

From my understanding ALL FJR wheels are identical, but they use different hardware (ie rotors, bearings, spacers, ABS hubs) with the different years. The differences are purely cosmetic between the actual rims themselves.

03' FJR's have smaller front rotors, and a different rear wheel bearing than the 04-05 FJR's. To swap them with an 04-05 FJR, you will need to replace the front rotors with the appropriate type for you model year. For the rear, you will either need to replace the rear wheel bearing to your bike's appropriate year, or you will need to order a new wheel spacer for the rim's model year. I went with buying an 03' wheel spacer as I didn't want to screw with removing and replacing the bearings. The various part numbers are listed below.

03 parts:

Rear bearing: 93306-20476-00

Rear spacer: 5JW-4615A-00-00

Front rotors: 4SV-2581T-00-00

04-05 parts:

Rear bearing: 93306-20480-00

Rear spacer: 5VS-4615A-00-00

Front rotors: 5VS-2581T-00-00

My understanding is this can also be done with 06-07 rims, but I don't know the specifics of it.

What I meant is that he wheels aren't directly interchangeable  They can be swapped but there are a number of parts that need to be purchased or moved from rim to rim. For the unwary, you can't simply use the Allen wrench in the Yamaha tool kit and (successfully) swap rotors. Impact tools with hardened bits rule. While the 'blue wrench' can be used to get things moving, I'm not a fan of using heat on rotors that are to be reused. I would also recommend that all the bearings, spacers, seals, etc. are removed before torching the job.

Edited: Oops, Skoot issued a mea culpa, while I was typing my clarification :)

I am game... And i could even save some shipping for ya!

Here's my proposal:

You ship your wheels to Smitty

I ride to Smitty's

Smitty ships your chrome beauties

I get the blackies

Smitty get's the 05 non ABS wheels

EVERYONE HAPPY!

Oh, And you pay the labor for the swap of parts! :)

Let me know.

Adam

Still trying to make the swap with GalaxyBlue work, however, timing/logistics may not allow it. Won't know for sure until later this week.

Anyone else out there up for a possible swap if this one doesn't work out!?

I took a quick pic this morning before heading to work of my bike with black rims on it. If you guys want any more pics, let me know and I'll try to take a few more. I know its kind of a crappy pic, but I was running late for work....

NO LONGER NEED TO SWAP WHEELS..... IN A VERY UN-COOL MOVE, KNOWING THAT I HAD LINED UP A SWAP, HAD REMOVED MY WHEELS, TIRES, ROTORS AND BEARINGS SO I COULD SHIP THE WHEELS OUT, AND ORDERED A NEW SET OF TIRES, SMITTY141 SOLD THE CHROME ONES OUT FROM UNDER ME :angry2: :nono:

Thanks to all who have replied and PM'd me.
