I did it. I signed up for wheelie school.

At my age, a sanity check might be in order, but their website made it sound like fun. That's all it took.. a day of fun abusing someone else's motorcycle. My son-in-law is also going and it would be fun to see some other familiar faces there. Going Sunday March 12 at Tracy (CA) airport. Anyone interested?

On One Wheel

You're a sick man, George!
Yeah! That makes at least two of us. Come on Jeff, sign up... you'll like it, and you can save money on those R1 front tires. That thing doesn't like the front beign on the ground anyway . :D

So, your gonna pay money to have a guy help you get it up? Oh, the humanity! Back to reality now...looks like a blast; be sure to send in your 'review' afterwards!

Sah weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet
Let us know how you like it...and send pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If anyone signs up for a Pomona class PM me and I'll photograph the event for you
Hey, FNG...good idea!

Where is this class located Coyote? I could come take pics of you!

It will be at the Tracy Municipal Airport. Pictures would be great, but I'm really hoping not to do anything newsworthy. :notme:

Sign up for the class and we can shoot pictures of each other.

No, they can't....but the return to the pavement can. :D

Blown fork seals, battered steering head bearings.

Alan
I've heard this before on the forum but just don't understand. My dirtbikes routinely land from +20 vertical feet onto landing ramps shaped from sloped to flat. They routinely come up short on doubles and hit the face of the landing ramp. Oh yes, wheelies are done at every opportunity!

Yet the fork seals last me, on average, 2 maybe 3 complete California seasons meaning all year long. Steering head bearings? Most non-pro racers replace them every 3 years or so, but primarlily due to water inclusion due to frequent pressure washing.

I've looked at seals made for the street and for the dirt; they appear to be identical. For example, the seals in a 91 Kawasaski Kx500 fit and work perfectly in a 79 Kaw Kz1300.

Does anyone have concrete proof that wheelies on a FJR lead to premature failure of seals and bearings?

Alan - please don't read this as a flame.. It truly is not. It's just that I've heard this argument before form others on the board too and yet it doesn' match my personal experiences with non FJR motorcycles. In search of the truth.. :)

I suspect that your dirtbike is built a bit different than the FJR.

After putting on my new superbrace I put the factory plastic s#hit stoppers (fork protectors) back on in addition to the built-in s#it stoppers on the superbrace. Some time later I got road construction asphalt trapped behind the protectors and it stuck to the fork tube cutting the fork seal. I took Feejer to my dealer and asked them to fix the fork seal and told them what caused the problem. The service writer says, "Road debris, ya sure, (wink, wink) and take it easy on the wheelies too." When I picked up my FJR the dealership owner stopped by to shoot the breeze for a few minutes and I told him about fork protectors holding in road debris and the owner says, "Hmmm, road debris, ya sure (wink, wink) and remember to put the front wheel down more easily when you do wheelies." My dealer seemed to be very sure that wheelies lead to popped fork seals. (They did the repair under warranty.)

I never popped the seals on my V-Max which was a unicycle a great deal of the time. :erm: I did pop fork seals on two different Hondas after a lot of wheelies. Since there was no problem found with the fork tubes I assume it was the wheelies. The dealer that repaired the first Honda was SURE it was wheelies and wouldn't repair the seals under warranty. Guess being immature can be expensive ;)
