Got 7k+ now on my 05 so let's see what the rev limiter feels like when it kicks in, and when. I recall 9300 from somewhere. I thought it prudent to verify it's operation and what it feels like under "controlled" conditions.

Long, smooth, straight, empty, three lane, familiar stretch, albeit at night, I brought it abruptly up to 9500k in 2nd and eased off. If felt like it wanted to keep going and sounded nice, but I was already in the red and Santa wouldn't bring me an 06 this Christmans if I broke my 05.

Anyone experience being bounced off the limiter? If so when?

There was a post on this not too long ago. I can't remember exactly but I'm thinking the limiter came in at around 10.1. (not sure)

Nope. It's there to protect the engine. In most cases, it just cuts power to 2 of the cylinders.

If you look at dyno sheets on the FJR, power starts dropping off around 8000 RPM. Also, on the few dyno charts that i've seen on the FJR, it looks like power cuts out at 9500, so, perhaps indicated RPM is different from actual?

2 cyliders cut out early, then if you manage to keep adding RPM's, the other 2 cut out later. I don't recall the exact RPM's here, maybe 8500 and 9500 respectively?

Indicated rpm seems to read high on mine. If I go a GPS-indicated 60 mph in 5th, the tachometer shows 3600 rpm. According to the calculated data, the engine is really running at about 3200 rpm.

If I am in "really twistin on it" I will try to shift around 9000rpm. Sometimes I might hear the motor flatin out...well I know I just bump the rev limiter. I think most people think there bikes are there babys. *********, they are all disposable, ring there guts out...have a great time...throw the old wore out piece of crap in the **** box. Go buy a NEW one :p Have fun guys, these things are bullet proof. I have yet to read...O my god, theres parts and oil hanging out the bottom...Hey, but thats how I ride mine..20,000 trouble free smiles, (well fliping thought the ditch, I wasn't smiling..I was screeming. But thats a different story) 5 front tires, and 7 rears. And 8 oil changes ect.. It will be for sale in a year or so ...............................Any takers?? :haha:

No worries about engine damage when going that hi??
The whole point to the rev limiter is to protect the engine.

Let 'er RIP!

(and just TRY to keep up with Smitty!)

At Barber Motorsports Park on a track day I saw 10,500 in 3rd. The limiter seems to me to be gear-dependant. I think it cuts in (soft) at about 9500 in 1st,10,000 in 2nd and 10,500 after that.

Some guy on a 749 Ducati passed me when we weren't racing.Cut me off when he shouldn't have. I blew his doors off and never saw him again 'till later in the paddock when he came by to see what the hell kind of big touring bike that was.

Well, This makes me wonder if the top end "could" be higher than 160...Because 9k is 160mph... I have taken the FJR to that point and really didn't have any more. Maybe it ran out of power?

Soft limiter kicks in around 10,500. Makes me wish that Mother Yamaha would retool this engine with a redline around 12,500 and gobs more power. Give it the Hayabusa treatment! Unleash the FJR... :agent:
