I have an 04 FJR with 19,000. miles on it.

The tires on it are Pilot Road Michelin. Tread is good. With no cupping or other uneven damage.

Wheels have balance weights on them and look new condition.

Now my story; If im going up to 40 mph. It rides ok. But from 50+ I start to feel vibation in handle bars.

So one day I decided to take it up to 100 mph. At that speed I was watching my forks compress in and out as it vibrated.

I felt the back tire moving my butt up and down in the seat.

So whats the deal? Need Tire rebalance? New tires? What?

If you still have good tread left, have the tires rebalanced. And NOT by who did them the first time.

If that doesn't work, get new tires.

19,000 miles ! For gods sake man, change 'em before the air gets out ! :dntknw:
My initial response started, "you have 19k on your original tires?!?! That's more than me! Change them SOBs!!!"

But then I went back and checked his post and yep, he says they are Michelin Pilot Roads. Those weren't OEM tires for the FJR in 04, so they must be at least his second set.

My FJR was purchase from the original owner. What he did to it? You know used motorcycle?

Im thinking that someone balance the wheels without the tire on.

This is the only explanation I can think of.

As for the cost of balance tires?

Im thinking the Yami dealer will charge alot of money; Like everything else at the dealer.

Might be a good idea to wait untill replacement of both tires?

Just have to ride it not more than 40 mph.

Boy at 100+ it was like ridding a bucking bronco. Crazy right?

Suffice to say that you weren't watching the road at this speed?

As a tire wears, the balance point *can* move to another spot on the tire....it's not common but it does happen.

What I mean is, another heavy spot becomes more apparent with additional tread wear.

Just my .02 worth -

but if I was riding around on questionable tires that I did not know the history of I would invest in a new set.

As in RIGHT EFFING NOW.

But that's just MHO.

Sounds like a moderate to severe condition. I would put the bike on the centerstand and check for out of round on both tires. You may have a broken cord (internal failure) in which case you need to change the tire(s). An out of balance condition would really have to be out of balance to produce the conditions you describe (did you throw a weight off?).

After looking at the wheels. It looks like there was a small weight on the front wheel missing.

The other weights look so small. I did not think such a small weight would make it vibrate so dam much.

Anyone use a product called Dyna Beds? Was looking at there web site.

I think as soon as I can aford a new set of Tires. That would be my best choice & give me peace of mind.

Untill then I will limit my speed to 40 mph. And hope my Yami dealer will do the work right.

So now looking for Tires. What to purchase?
