Where is EOM 2013?

... but I was running with only the LED visual aid plugged in. That will be fixed on V2.0. I'm going to research tucking the RD in the nose with a on/off switch somewhere.
Jaxson - the guy that one the 'award' at EOM '08 - had one helluva slick setup on his bike. He fabricated a 'hood' (for lack of a better term) that covered the top of his dash, in between the windshield tracks. Between the hood and the dash, he had lights in there for his RD indicators. Seems to me he had gutted an RD and stashed the components here and there to hide it. If you didn't know what it was / where it was, you'd probably never know.

yes - I'm considering something like that - Grumpy had an Escort RD stuffed in the nose of his bike, too. The real fix is piping the audio to the helmet.

many of what routes we have now are easily adjusted for Boone or Hendersonville
To clarify - If we return to Hendersonville, every route from last year is usable with minimal labor to adjust the start / end points. Any route that runs northeast out of Hendersonville could be adjusted to start / end in Boone.

I guess my ideas are finished or I can meet more scrutiny such as too close to Virginia or too many circus acts. Guess I'll just show when everything is said & done.

I'm not sure why you would say this; as I read back through there, it seems as though each suggestion tabled has been measured against the same standard - rooms for 80-100, Banquet facility for 80-100, and quality riding. You have made more suggestions than anyone else, which is great, we need conversation and to flush out which locations are players and which are not.

For example, I really liked Hendersonville for some aspects, but I was really upset with the hotel. Many were ok with it, but it just did not live up to what I had been promised was a let down in my opinion. Lesson learned. But I feel Hendersonville is still a player if we can locate a better venue (which Lee may have done already).

As long as folks do a little research and offer viable hotel suggestions, more is better, but follow up isn't as easy as it might seem:

We can only qualify venues where we talk to the hotel manager and do site inspection which makes for logistic limits. Given our "frugal" budget we have to be careful - places aren't necessarily as represented on their internet sites.

A hotel might or might not be feasible now but this isn't the last year we'll ever have EOM. Given time we can verify more places and it would be great to have solid options for future events. That's valuable information.

Along those lines: I just got off the phone with Jeff and we talked about the Gatlinburg area which like Maggie Valley gives us different routes in the western mountains. It needs to be a venue - maybe not this year but soon. Between cold, snow, road salt and grit, highland riding is iffy now but I can check out more places come Spring.

Ideas that might not come to fruition for a couple years could seem inconsequential but they matter so keep hunting. Whoever takes on running an EOM needs all the help they can get.

I had always heard that Gatlinburg was a crowded mess with all of the touristas, etc. Now, I'm not from that area, so I will certainly defer to you locals' knowledge. I'm sure there are bigger venues available in that area, which would be a plus.

Verdad! Not only is Gatlinburg a crowded mess but the main roads in/out can be packed and slow too. How ever good the potential of the roads the traffic in tourist season won't let it happen. I love the aquarium in Gatlinburg and the area around it but the traffic sux.

A solid +1 for my super smart friend. Gatlinburg is a beautiful place to bring your wife in the car, not so nice if you are wanting to enjoy your motorcycle. I have to say that the motorcycle riding south of there on the NC side is much better, not because of geography but because of traffic.

My gawd...if Gatlinburg is chosen, I'll choose to go to a less crowded place that year...like Disney World. My little bit of research from family trips indicate that the Gatlinburg and points north to the Interstate is one slow moving parking lot.

Please don't use the words Gatlinburg and FJR Meet in the same sentence again.

You're scaring me up here and making me worry about the analysis capabilities of the EOM scouts.

The routes this past year were a Grand Slam...keep up the good work guys.

(There...I helped with consumer feedback)

Calm down fellas. We're talking about 2 years from now and the point is we need a venue in the western mountains. A lot more recon and work has to go into narrowing down a locale.

Wow. So when in the past 6 years has EOM been a let down on either the venue or riding? I say 6 years, because that was the earliest I attended. I've missed one year in that time. I'm certain the reputation was well in tact before that. Your concern is unjustified imho - just keep your panties on and you'll see..,

I believe I would rather try herding cats into a bathtub than to ever attempt to organize a function for a large group off this forum. Those of you doing the organizing have my full respect. I would truly love to make one of these little gatherings. I am almost positive that work will interfere with me attending this year, but I have been following this thread with interest. Even if I don't get to attend I know you guys will have an epic time. The pics and Ride Reports are going to be great.

Yep!

Their's a reason I'll travel for two days each way to go to EOM's. They're the best on this side of the island.

Suggestion. West Virginie! Say, around Weston? Perhaps we could use the https://trans-alleghenylunaticasylum.com/ . It'd be like coming home!
That would be totaly cool...I'd stay there. Stopped there on the way home from camping at Holly River this year. Some fun roads in that area too

I'm sorry...my posts are too inflammatory. The organizers have every right to organize where they want.

I will refrain from posting from now on as I see I am not helping the organizers at all.

Inflammatory?! Pfffft!! Don't give up too easily Wheaton. In WWII it was the Flame Throwers that all the attention. They all died but.... Just before they died they had every bodies complete attention!

After some of what I have seen on this forum, my definition of inflammatory has been revised. I did not think that Wheaty's post was inflammatory. I have been reading about the past exploits of this gathering and wished that I could have been there to enjoy the fun that was had by you guys (and girls!). I was actually expressing my respect for the hard work and fantastic job the organizers have been doing to make such a gathering possible. The fact that the reports and pics all show such a wonderful time being had is testimony to what a great job has been done in the past.

Given the diverse personalities on this forum, I respectfully repeat "I would rather try herding cats into a bathtub than to organize a large function for this group". This is not a personal attack, it just means that it is impossible to make everyone happy. Even though I am sure it would be great fun.
