Every vehicle I've ever owned has one or more engine 'sweet spots'. My Gen 1, after the tick fix, runs like butter right around 3200rpm. which translates to about 55mph. The next real nice sweet spot doesn't come in until I'm well into performance award territory. It's never vibey or feeling flat, but that one spot is torqey and smooth as all hell.

I'm just curious, where does your engine smooth out and feel happiest?

For me it depends on the road. If I am slabbing it is between 65 and 70 MPH. The bike just doesn't want to go any slower. I quess its around 4 K at that speed I think.

80 to 85 MPH, 4300 to 4500 RPM, average MPG is around 47 at those speeds :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

My engine feels happiest just before I.... oh wait, you're talking about something else, aren't you? ;)
HUBBA, HUBBA, HUBBA! Miss Tyler, since it is Friday, inquiring minds (Papa Chuy, Niehart and madmike2) do want to know!!!

Since having done the DCU TBS (Definitely, Completely Unauthorized Throttle Body Sync) I have a vibratory null spot right at 4k rpm. This works out nicely as I can run right around 50 some mph in 4th gear on back roads.

Or what, ~ 75? mph on the slab. But I can never seem to keep it down to 75 on the slab...

Anything between 5-7k rpms is this engine's sweet spot, especially after the full exhaust system. It just purrs and has gobs of power. Windshield about halfway up combined with spacers and ~110 is my sweet spot

5-7k...

I'd be glad to show Tyler where her sweet spot is...

...on the BIKE...what did you think I meant?

Somehow, I just knew that would elicit that kind of response on a Friday.

It was just a matter of which of our y chromosome impaired members would step forward... ;)

KEEPING IT FJR RELATED! I find the sweet spot occurs about 2 -4 seconds after the motor fires, the kickstand is up and both feet are on the pegs. :yahoo:

no warm-up first?
Never saw the need. That's what the fast-idle circuit is for....to make the bike instantly drive-able. Warm-ups are for soccer players and ballerinas. Oh, and Gen IIs.
