I'm trying to find out what my options are for accepting a Bluetooth phone into a communications system. When I Google this, there seems to be a lot of results that come back with Bluetooth connections from the comm system to the helmet, but, that's not what I'm looking for. What I'm looking for is a communications system that has a Bluetooth interface for a Bluetooth phone. Up to this point, all of the phones that I use have the standard earbud jack. Welp, the Motorola Razr doesn't have one, so, I need to find a system that has a Bluetooth interface. So far, all I found was the Starcom. Anyone know of any others?

Randy,

The Autocom Super Pro AVI system lists support for Bluetooth phones as such...

Aux 1 socket. (3.5mm x 4 pole) would normally be used for mobile phone connection via the lead supplied in Kit 300*. This socket also has a unique switchable power output so that recommended optional plug and play Bluetooth phone adaptors can be used and powered directly via this socket.

If you look at this link, on page 10 they state that they'll have a Bluetooth adapter in late Summer of 2006.

For the starcom (and possibly others) system, make sure your phone has a real hands-free autoanswer. Some (like my Blackberry 7100t) has bluetooth, but doesn't have autoanswer.

Thanks, Groo. Page 12 shows $59.99 for the Bluetooth module interface and $189.99 for the Bluetooth module.

The Starcom Bluetooth module is $160.

Doesn't make sense to me to sink this kind of money into an option for a phone that didn't even cost $100. Helluva lot cheaper and easier to just 'add a line for $9.99' and get a standard phone with a regular plug that works in all comm systems.

Thanks, Woodstock. My Motocom AB-1m may have some deficiencies, but, it works. And, as far as auto-answer, I don't need it with this system using a phone that has the standard earbud jack. It interrupts the music when a call is coming in. I look on caller-id - if it's someone I want to talk to, I hit the green button and it works just fine. Don't want to answer it? No problem...just let it ring.

I believe that the Starcom Bluetooth module will work on other systems.

I'm not sure, but, I might have found a solution. I found a product that works as an adapter for the Motorola RAZR and other phones that have an EMU (mini USB) port rather than a standard 2.5mm port for headsets. If it works ok, it would be a $20 solution to something that might have cost me a few hundred clams. The adapter was designed to allow people to use a standard headset with a phone that doesn't have the standard plug. The EMU end of the cable plugs into the phone and the other end has a female 2.5mm plug. In theory, it should work.

I'm gonna get one and will post results.

Randy,

My Motorola SLVR L7 (Cingular's latest iTunes phone) came with that same adapter.

All the power (charging) and audio go through that connection.

Might just be me, but I can't get any of the phone features to work through that connection.

Music works just fine though.

As I type this, I think back to Apple's/Cingular ads for the phone.

Person walking down the street, their shadow dancing to the music, call comes in and music stops.

They hang up, music starts again, shadow goes back to dancing.

Hmmmmm :glare:

Maybe it has to do with having my bluetooth turned on??

I usually use handsfree bluetooth for 95% of my calls home, work, cage.

No setup on the bike yet (maybe never if it costs $200+)

I will do some troubleshooting and see if I can get phone audio out of the mini-USB adapter cable.

I just got the cable and hooked it up to my RAZR. I plugged it into the phone and plugged the lead off of my comm system into the other end. It works!!!!! I was able to make and receive calls through my helmet just like I was able to with a phone that had the regular jack. I also hooked up an older style earpiece and was able to use it with this adapter cable.

fwiw - I had bluetooth disabled.

Thanks for the update.

I am thinking with the bluetooth turned on all of the phone signals are routed to the bluetooth headset.

Maybe I will have to add a Starcom system to my Farkle wish list...

Do you already have a communication system? If so, this cable will allow it to work without buying the bluetooth module for the Starcom. At least it did with mine. All the module will do is eliminate the cord for the phone. You will still need the cord that goes to the helmet as well as the cord for music or anything else you plug into it.

The Starcom is still a nice system, though. But, for $160 or so, the bluetooth module is a lot of money.

btw - if you don't already do it, set up a shortcut on your phone for turning bluetooth on and off. i did and can now turn it on/off with just pressing 2 buttons.

No system yet.

I am leaning towards a Starcom system.

The mixit2 looks pretty good as well. (I like the priority inputs)

If I decide on having a cell phone the Starcom looks the only way to go to get a mic.

If no cell phone, the mixit2 looks like it should cover all of my bases.

But...the starcom leaves the future upgrade door open.

Decisions...

I got both, since I wanted upgradability. I have (or will have) a radio, iPod, GPS, and V1 input

into the mixit2 (first two stereo, second two mono), then the output from the mixit2 going into

my starcom (older one, not the advance). I then have a spare starcom input for a (future)

bluetooth and bike2bike radio system. The starcom also functions for the rider/pillion intercom

system. If I didn't need the intercom, perhaps I'd just use a mixit into helmet speakers.
