I got a smart phone this year, HTC PPC 6800 (same as sprint Mogul, etc). I installed TomTom navigator 6 on it and am looking forward to traveling with it on the FJR this summer. I obviously need a mount. I like the techmount, I think. Any experiences using this mount would be helpful. Is the 3.5" high enough to view with full face helmet on? Anyone have this phone or previous model mounted? Pics? Ideas on which plate to hold the phone? I am going to mount a power adapter as well, as my 05 has none:( Anyone have a preferred/recommended location/manufacturer for this power outlet? I have been reading the board, but have not seen anyone with this specific setup...Any help would be greatly appreciated, riding season is approaching fast here in WI, as soon as the snow stops falling and starts to melt....

I have a verizon vx6700--I believe it is the same size as the 6800 but with a stubby antenna. I am looking in to a ram mount aqua box. All the other mounts I have seen are the clamp stye. Although I did see at a RKA booth that they had a cell phone mounted in one of those lined with the heavy duty monster velcro. I tried to remove it and I believe that I would trust it on a bike, but does kind of junk up the phone.

You'll hate it mounted on the stem. This is exactly what I've gone through with my AT&T Tilt (HTC TyTN II). Go with the RAM Aqua Box 2 (sizing for Mogul confirmed), RAM B202 base, RAM 201B arm, and the RAM M10 Mirror Hole Ball (RAM-B-349U) and mount it on the clutch-side of your bars in the unused mirror hole. Install a Powerlet plug receptacle within the general vicinity of the bars (I used the blank where the heated grip controller goes on the left side) and use Powerlet's Mini USB GPS Power Cable to run up inside the Aqua Box as your power source (36" length ideal).

Lastly, the best piece of software you can purchase for your PPC is Microsoft's Voice Command 1.6. (Purchase and download at Handango). This will give you full voice command (as the name implies) over your PPC while riding with little manual input. (This assumes you're using either a wired or bluetooth headset of some sort).

I'll post up pictures as soon as I get the last piece of the set-up above (the RAM M10 Mirror Hole Ball).

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the input, but why did you hate the stem mount? Also, I am not looking at this point to make calls or otherwise communicate with the phone, just want navigation including audio, and mp3's. I plan on outputting them via bluetooth to a bluetooth amp that lets me plug my sure headphones into it (a simple wireless solution). Will the aqua box hinder the bluetooth? It would seem that it might interfere.

OK, if your phone is really 'smart', how come IT didn't tell you what mount to use? :glare:

and that is the real question...it promised to tell me as soon as I gave it a proper ride on the FJR...kinda a chicken or the egg dilema.... :)

The Aqua box is made out of high-impact ABS plastic, so no, it won't interfere with the bluetooth RF signal - particularly when you're only sitting a few feet away. Regarding it's use as simply a GPS and MP3 player, I'll be honest and tell you that it probably wouldn't be my first choice if that's all I wanted it to do. There are better purpose-built devices on the market. Case-in-point: Unless you disable the audio instructions in TomTom, your music will be continually interupted by either a male or female voice giving you instructions. That gets real annoying real fast. The music volume does not fade in and out; it cuts in and cuts out. And as a stand alone GPS device, PPCs are simply not ideal.

The configuration I use it to have my PPC act as my GPS (I use OnCourse Navigator 6) and phone via bluetooth to my Nolan N-Com headset, and connect my MP3 player (an iPod in this case) via the wired audio input to the headset. It works much better than having the one device try to do everything.
