I had a Garmin GPS mounted on my Gen I when I crashed it a couple years back, but couldn't pull the mounting ball off as it was mounted on the big nut at the top of the forks--sorry, don't know what it's called. The part I mean replaced the big stock nut between the handlebars, with the ball attached. I also had a ball on the bottom of the Garmin and an adapter like the one shown below between the two balls so it was completely adjustable.

I don't have a picture of the center mount ball thing cuz it's not on the Ram Mount website anymore. I see they have a U-clamp option for handlebars "up to 1.25 inches."

Might work, but you know the oddball shape of the Feej's handlebars. It's well over the 1.25" down toward the center where you could mount this clamp, with all the extra stuff hanging on the bars. I liked the setup I had, so I'm hoping somebody can suggest a type of Ram ball mount that will be compatible with the ball on my Garmin. Dang GPS'es have gotten so cheap anymore that I don't want to spend very much to mount the antique Garmin I have, though it still works fine--it's just not very advanced compared to what's available now for a hundred bucks.

Anybody have one they took off and would sell? Open to alternatives and suggestions, too.

Edit: Dang, that Tom not only types fast, but I agree with him too. That is Dave Wynn.

I bought the kit for my bike and the GPS (Nuvi 1300T) from GPS City for $34 plus shipping. Probably not the best deal, but it had everything that I could have needed.

See ya, new guy.

They make a ball that mounts to the brake/clutch resevoir bolts. I just bought one:

clicky
Do you (does anyone) know if that fits BOTH Gen I and II? Thanks.
Mike,

I have that one on my right side handlebar between the throttle and the brake perch. It's actually the mount that comes with a zumo GPS. There is just enough room if you loosen and slide the clutch perch away from the throttle housing. I mount my RD on that one. On the left handlebar you can screw a RAM ball 10mm threaded ball into the mirror hole. Just need to pull out the plastic plug that's in there and screw in one of these.

For the GPS itself I have a WynPro RamBone. It's the bomb.

+1 on the RAM Bone!! It's the way to go.

A RAM ball threaded into the 10mm threaded socket on the clutch master cylinder is a close second. You can fit a u-bolt clamp on the FJR handlebars, but given these two far more functional and elegant alternatives, why would you want to? I think the RAM ball with the 10mm thread is cheaper than a u-bolt mount anyway. You may need to file some flats on the sides to be able to tighten and loosen it, but other than that, it is plug and play.

The RAM Bone is a great solution, though - good location, easy to wire, etc, etc.

Because 2 RAM balls is never enough!! (just ask bustanut)

And there is no threaded mirror hole on the right side brake perch.

And, and an escort radar detector fits mo' better on the right side.

And, and, and... that is all.

Mike, get the Rambone. It's the only way to go, because it's the most convenient place available, and it is completely out of the way. If you want more attachment points, then get the mirror hole mount. If you want even more, then get a reservoir top mount.

SM - If you want to go the route of mounting it on the RH side, I have drilled and tapped the RH mirror mount and have used a RAM ball mount there for a digital camera with no issues. I'd be happy to perform the "surgery" for you, the next time you're in my neck of the woods.

This is GREAT! I can mount my GPS, and my camera, and get a radar detector, and a LIDAR jammer, and a cup holder, and a satellite radio, and a spare GPS, and, and . . . :yahoo: Thanks, guys.

+ another 1 on the Wyn Pro. Just got back from a 9000Km ride through the Western States. The Wyn Pro mount with a Ram set up worked great even with my large tank bag.
