TWN, I suppose I'm just a little "testy". I've been off work for a week with a knee all puffed up...God I hate being a patient and having to be patient! Laying around taking meds, icing every 2 hours keeping the leg elevated is driving me nuts...and I was almost there anyway.
Ooh, meds! Me likey meds!

S'OK Mike, we all get cranky from time to time. I hate being under the weather, too. Hugs and kisses, get well soon!

-Timmy :D ;)

As much heat and light that the "TICK" issue seems to generate, you'd think these same gentlemen would know where to get one fixed....
So, any of you who make so much smoke about this know where to get one fixed in Mo.? Or do you just wish to through gasoline on the fire, not be part of the solution?

Let see, I was just wondering where the best dealers are to perform major engine work. I was not being negative, maybe I should word it a little different so some folks can understand...

Does anyone know where the best place to get my f_cking oil changed! And if you have never had one (ticker) repaired, well I am not asking you this question. I'm asking the one with the ticker!!! Wow, I feel better....

Smitty, my comment was not directed at you, but those who continually fan the "tick" issue. I was hoping that one of the vocal group would have an answer for you. I know of 2 places to have the tick repaired in NorCal so I was hoping that one of those who know all things regarding the tick would know where, close to you, one could be taken to be "officially" identified and repaired.

Evidently my cynical, "tongue in cheek" style was misinterpreted. Sorry!

No harm here Mike, there just is not a place I know of to get any quality work done. I would rather ride to some place like Sunnyside, or University motors, drop off my ride and jump a plane home. I see so many shops with morons with hammers in the service department. Alot of $6.00 dollor an hour kids learning on other peoples stuff (not that there is anything wrong with that ;) ).

I think a list of the top service dealers, plus the ones to stay away from would be nice. And by the way, get well soon MM2.... smitty

I hear you barking, big Dog! I mean why NOT? Even forgetting the Tick issue, which shops do Excellent, Good, or Poor work? Was the delivery time on time? Did the bike come back cleaner than it went in? Did you find missing fasteners, stripped threads, scratches on the paint?

Seems like fair questions to me... why not use the power of the net to keep all us informed and aware?

I've heard lots of good about the service department at Yamaha Sports Center in Texarkana. They have also offered some good pricing on new bikes. Call Tony, 903-832-7476. A nice day's ride from Hooterville?

I'm also not willing to take chances with the important stuff on the FJR. For me, on my side of the country, it's going to Sunnyside for big tick(et) items. ;)

mine was done at Skagit Power Sports in Burlington Wa. it was the the first one they did and it has been fine since. they have inhouse machine shop and a dynojet dyno to remap your power comander if you have one.

03 with 18k ticker fixed at Roseville Yamaha near Sacramento CA...they did it right but it took them too long, nearly 6 weeks. Blamed it on a machine shop taking three weeks to do the head (surely the head just sat there for 3 weeks then the machinist did the work in about 4 hours) And to add insult to the injury, Yamaha did not authorize an oil change as part of the Tick-fix...that's just wrong...

But the bike runs better than ever, and that just peachy... :D

Mine is under the knife right now at Dryer Motorsports in Indianapolis.

When I dropped it off, the service guy knew of the issue but had never heard one close up before.

He said their dealership had never repaired a "ticker". (Ticker was his term, not mine)

He agreed it did not sound like his FJR.

He pulled in a consult from one of the other mechanics. That 2nd mechanic said,

"Compared to my FJR, it sounds like it needs the valves adjusted."

What luck, 2 Yamaha certified mechanics and FJR owners!

They agreed to check the valve clearances and dig deeper if needed.

At 20K mls, the valve clearances were all in spec. with no adjustment needed.

Two days later, there is a whole grocery list of parts on order from Yamaha.

New Gaskets, seals, valve guides, valves.

The sales guy in the showroom rides an FJR.

His boss rides an FJR

4 Fjr owners in one dealership! I think these guys could hold an employee only FJR rally.

I'll report back in detail when it is over. I am hoping to be able to give these guys rave reviews. They sure have made it easy so far.... :)

1 week+ into the wait for parts.... :lazy: . sunny and 75 deg today.

Confirmed all valves, guides, seals, gaskets, etc. are on order under

warranty. Not just guides and seals.

2 weeks :lazy: :drag:

Not to be boring and actuallyanswer the question or anything, but I had my ticker fixed at "G. P. Sports" in Campbell, California. That's in the SF Bay Area. This was last March, and they were not especially cooperative - they had never heard of the problem, and they got no good info from Cypress until I called Customer Service myself. The people in Customer Service called the dealer and authorized a full head replacement - much to the dealer's astonishment. In short, they didn't "believe in" the problem and wouldn't even entertain the possibility of valve guide wear until they got somebody else to pay for taking the head off.

Somebody else near here got his fixed there, too, after mine was finished. I don't remember if I heard the middle or end of his story - I think it got fixed, but I don't know if it was an "easy" experience from his perspective.

3 weeks......... Still no news.

:bordum:     :drag:
Hey Quicksilver... On a deal like that, would they (dealer) just order parts. Then you could ride till everything was there??? It seem that everyone drops there bike off, and then it is forever getting parts. That = missed riding time. I would think the whole repair should only take a few day's... What do you think?? Smitty

There lies the problem smitty, Yamaha will not cover the cost to re-assemble until parts arrive and then dis-assemble. Once they go in deep, your at the mercy of part's and the service department schedule. Yamaha will not authorize any part's for replacement until the diagnosis is complete.

Also be prepared that when you show up at the dealer with 'your engine issue', it'll be 'your coin' until any findings that Cypress request are within spec.

Hey Smitty,

John here. I am thinking I might want to get a valve adjustment this winter so I called one of the largest local Yamaha dealerships here in St. Louis. I get the service dept on the phone and ask him what is the going rate to do the job. He ask me, "is that a 1200 or 1300". I say its a FJR. He says "yeah but is it a 1200 or a 1300". I say "nevermind". We may not have a quality Yamaha shop in this area.

Still look'n.

John

4 weeks plus

The head is back from the machine shop and they are reassembling.

They say several more business days .

OOpps...

They didn't order new head bolts.

They can't be recycled.

Placed on order.

No chance to get done before the 5 week mark.

:fie: :gah: :lazy: :eek:mg:

smitty 141,

I found the best place to get my UK 02 ticker fixed was Yamaha UK - I got a NEW UK 03!!

The 02 started "ticking" after 6004 miles and 3 months ownership - kicked up an almighty justifiable STINK, and got a new machine. The main argument used was "not fit the purpose as described". Got the backing of my local Trading Standards Officer and had my machine replaced!

Good luck,

Regards, Glenn. :agent:

Hey Smitty, What about Surdyke??? I thought they were good? I know for a FACT that ProCycle is NOT on my list of good shops!
