Actually, this bike lifts itself up on the stand.  I bought a fishe's aftermarket ride off stand, if while on the bike using your left leg, you simply depress the stand then put the bike in reverse it will ride itself right up on the stand.  Once up you simply leave the bike in reverse when you shut it off and it is locked up on the stand.  The coolest thing about this is when you want to go you simply ride off the stand, I use it at red lights even with a passenger on board.  It amazes me that Honda hasn't put this sort of item on all goldwings direct from the  factory.  It works perfectly and here is a picture of the stand.  Regards, Greg

Jesus! You have a chromed center stand????? Dude, it's a Wing, not a King! Sacrilege! Fifty lashes! (And the fact that it has ride-off capabilities doesn't buy you a waiver...) :p :D

Sorry, I don't like the radiator guards chrome. Never heard of the footpeg guards chrome?? :unsure:

Not footpeg guards, I've seen the mounting bracket for the rider footpegs done in chrome. Sort of ties the frame covers and the engine side cover together. Kuryakyn might be the supplier. :)

I keep thinking about how comfortable the Wing was. I need some reasons not to buy the friggin' thing. There can be only one.

 
Had an Illusion Blue '01. Did have the overheating thing (like people have said at low speed into a headwind below 10mph, radiators blew air out front of bike to keep rider from getting hot but into couldn't overcome the headwind so you would have essentially no air movement over the radiators), no problem with frame. I have had three Wings and here are the impressions it left on me. Handles the best by far, awesome brakes (had ABS), always hitting the rev limiter on the 1500 and 1800 due to smoothness of the flat 6, too much wind protection and I never got the buffeting to quit on the 1800. I had a barn door shield on the 1500 and a Windjammer (rem those?) on the 1000 that were much calmer behind. Had three different shields on the 1800 and nothing ever suited my head.

Rode it 3300 miles to Sturgis and back from Memphis and felt like I had been b**** slapped for a week. I thought is rode much rougher than my 1500. I know they are trying to make it sportier but I felt the 1500 had a smoother highway ride overall and I liked the 1500 better. I think it was more what it was supposed to be rather than trying to spread out its intentions like the 1800. At low speeds the 1800 is pretty tough but the weight disappears at over a walking pace. And much like "the tick" , Honda would not admit for the longest time the the Wing had any problem whatsoever with low speed overheating. It took over a year for a recall to come out after people had beeen bitching about and showing their dealers the problem so that is pretty SOP unfortunately to ignore problems until they become overwhelming. And then there the frame cracking recall due to faulty welds but that was after I got rid of it and forwarded the notice to the lucky new owner.

 
I bought mine in very late 2004, all of those prior problems had been cured by then. It has been nothing but a pleasure. As far as feeling bitch slapped on a wing, I don't know what your smokin but could you send me some. This is by far the most comfortable touring bike I've ever rode and I've rode most of them. :beee:

 
I have an FJR, the only other two bikes I would like to have is something like an R1 or GSXR1000 and the Wing. With all 3 bikes what else could you ask for? :D

I'm glad they fixed 'em but I always had a fair amount of turbulence (at 70-90mph) that I never got rid of. Must be the way I'm built or something but I could never get get rid if it. Different shield, helmet and nothign I could do would help it. I always want a shield I can look over not thru so if I went w/some huge shield I probably could have been happy but then I would have incinerated in the summer in (and yes I did have the full complement of Baker air wings) and not been able to see very well in the rain or othert inclement weather. I rem emeber the time it snowed and the big shield iced up on the 1500 not cool stretching to see over the shield going down the interstate. I do love the clean air on the FJR with the shield down. Maybe I just have to have my head out in the wind like a dog or something. :rolleyes: Different strokes for different folks. Thats why there are so many bikes out here and yes my wife did love the backseat, the best in all of motorcycling. Actually fell asleep back there a few time on me.

 
i too was looking at the wing and the electra glide 2 problems 1 was the cash 17 for a wing and 19 for a glide . second i really thought the wife would be riding with me more and she just didi not like the wing or the harley product her comment was maybe when we are older . older i never thought i would make it this far . and then i purchased the yamaha which is my first yamaha product except for my stereo amp

I have been considering adding a wing to my collection ( mabey i should pay the fjr off first :) ).i had a old gl 1000 it had a 8 track player and windjammer with winjammer bags.I sat on a new one at moto pro of oceanside yesterday.man thats some kind of machine.that photo of spine 60's sure isnt making the temptation any easier.thats such a great color.i really want t get into some long mile riding trips again and i'm not sureif the fjr's gonna work for me for that.but i love that bike.300 mile days are not a prob.but i'm wondering about 800-1000 mile days

 
This is by far the best Wing. One you don't have to buy.

Since my wife Chris and I are in North Carolina on vacation, a friend let us borrow his 1500.

I had always been intrigued by this big rig and now I've had a chance to ride it.

Comfortable bike, all kinds of gadgets but I fear it's not for me.

No offense meant, y'all Wing dudes out there, but I can't wait to get back to my FJR.

Of course, if I could afford owning a dozen bikes I'd consider it (and park it next to an MV Agusta that I could use as dinghy).

Here in California, where splitting lanes is NOT illegal, the Wing is not the right tool for the job, it's just too wide to get through without knocking the mirrors off of every gas guzzling SUV on the road. Same problem with most H-D's. And K1200LT's. The guys I know that have GL1800's love 'em, but they sit in the garage a lot more than the average FJR.

 
Had one way back in '83. Fine bike but not very fast. It was 1100 cc back then.
