This may have been done...but I thought being 4th of July might be a

good time to see who served in the military. Maybe just your branch, mos,

favorite duty station, years you were in, etc...I'll start..

Served from 1979 thru 1985 in the USMC. Went to Parris Island for boot camp.

Quite the fun experience. Thats where I got the opportunity to crawl

across the squadbay floor naked..squeeling like a pig. I don't admit that to just

anybody. Then stationed/trained at Camp LeJuene in North Carolina. My mos

was 03:11....grunt. Later was trained in fire direction control..08:44

Didn't think much of the experiences then..I feel completely differnt about it now.

USMC for 5 years, 1987-1992. Had two MOS'- 6013 (A-6E Mechanic) and later 6017 (F/A-18 Mechanic), both of which were powerplants/plane captain jobs. Bootcamp in San Diego, aircraft training in Millington, TN and Whidbey Island, WA. Fleet station was MCAS El Toro (SoCal) with VMA(AW)-121 (for A-6E's) and then when A-6's were phased out, VMFAT-101 (F/A-18A, B, C, D). While in VMA(AW-121), did workups and a WestPac aboard the USS Ranger. The Tomcat squadrons across the hall from us had participated in the Top Gun movie, lol. That cruise also saw us patrol the IO and Gulf, escorting Kuwaiti tankers. Lost some some aircraft on the cruise during a Tomcat landing accident (with the CAG at the controls) and rescued Philippine refugees (and then our A-6's bombed their sinking boat for practice while we watched...funtimes). In VMFAT-101, a mixed Navy and Marine pilot training squadron, I did various carrier qual sessions aboard the USS Nimitz. Got to visit many countries and generally had fun most of the time.

Oh yea....I'm an honorable shellback as well. :D

Canadian Forces, August 81 to May 95, then active reserve until 97, supplemental reserve until 2001

5 years ROTP at College Millitaire Royal de St Jean (sorta "Westpoint-lite" ) commissioned in May 1986, Air Weapons Controller, a few years in NORAD (North Bay), then as an instructor, and a bunch more in tactical fighter control with 12e Escadron de Radar attached to 3 Fighter Wing in Bagotville QC, and then on the Ops staff at the Wing until I got a get out of jail free card during the force reduction program in the mid-90's. I'm a "peace dividend" - you remember, the kinder, gentler world we were all supposed to be in after the collapse of the Soviet Union? Yeah right!!!!

Liked being in the military then, and enjoying not being in the military now. But once a soldier always a soldier...

I'm still in. Active duty US Navy. I have been serving since September 1996. Currently working as an MH-53E Crew chief in Norfolk VA. Thank you everyone for your prior service and for shaping our country. Happy fourth of July!

US Navy 1976-1984. Four years in an A-7E light attack bomber squadron (VA-93) on the USS Midway stationed in Yokosuka Japan. Had the time of my life! I'm also a Shellback. Crossed the Ecuator twice. The second time was waaaaaay more fun! Traveled to 18 countries over and over that I wouldn't have seen in a million years! :clapping:

Then four years in A.I.M.D. Component Repair in Roosevelt Roads in Puerto Rico. That's where I got sent to NDI School (7225 NEC). Made E-7 Chief Petty Officer AMSC before I got out. Would do it all over again if I was still 22 years old! Happy 4th of July to everyone and God Bless the Greatest Country on Earth! :)

20 Years Navy, the majority of that flying TACAMO C-130's then E-6 airframe. With a joint tour flying the E-4. I still work for the TACAMO Wing as a contractor. Just better clothes and hours ;)

Happy 4th to anyone who appreciates what we have, how we got it, and what is required to maintain it.
