   Don't get me started. My Aircraft Carrier USS Midway pulled into the Philipines, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Perth, Australia, Korea, and Pakistan on a regular basis. This was before testing began. You can imagine the fun that was had by all!!  :lol:US Army drafted Oct69 ETS in Jul71. Trained as infantry mortarman, got to Germany & they made me a records clerk.
I learned how lucky I was to have grown up with two parents who did their best to provide a safe environment for
me and made sure I went to school and respected EVERYONE young or old. I also enjoyed German beer, Turkish hash
and good LSD.
Damn Redtail! We were there at the same time. During the hostage crisis the USS Midway did 186 days of 24/7 flying with all Bombs Cocked, Locked and Ready to Rock! I still have nightmares!! on the 100th day we stood down for a steel beach BBQ and got issued 2 beers each. Those among us that didn't drink were selling their beers for $100. There was a ******* line a mile long to pay $100 get that third beer!! Ahhhhhhhh the Memories! :lol:USN 1979-1981 Indian Ocean cruise during the Iran Hostage Crisis in '79, stationed on board USS Lockwood FF 1064 out of Yokosuka, Japan.
Grateful to have served. Thankful for those who watch over us now!

Funny that nobody mentions all that fire power appearing offshore, they credit "negotions" for the release of the hostages. Either way, glad we could help!

 Surly, I rememeber when the Aussies came to Okinawa for joint excerises and had a football (soccer)game with the joint US forces team. The Aussies proceeded to kick our arse while their goalie sat on the bench and drank all the beer.1St Battalion Royal Australian Regiment(1RAR)Infantry 73-76.
