Darn it I know better. :glare: I should have done my homework. A Rifle windshield upgrade and the V-Storm hand guard mod are both awesome mods to the FJR. But not at the same time. The screen, a bit wider and taller, is a keeper and allows into deep winter riding. Not to mention how quiet the ride is. The hand guards would help make it that much more pleasant. WRONG! I didn’t take into consideration that once I turn the bike left or right stop-to-stop the guards hit the plexi. DAMN! :angry2:

Anyone have any ideas how to get around this issue. I’m considering heating the acrylic and bending OR cutting the plastic to accommodate for clearance. OR do I get a refund for the hand guards. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Nothing more than personal opinion, but those hand guards, I mean really... Have you LOOKED at the bike with them on!!!

:)

How often do you turn your handlebars to full lock?

IIRC, my Givi +4 wide did suffer contact with the V-strom hand guards but the only time I had issue was when I turned to "full lock" so I could lock the steering. My current Givi is +2 wide and there are no issues.

Winter is finally (and hopefully truly) fading into Spring on the Left Coast so I'll be removing my hand guards in a month or so. My commute is still in 40 degree temps so they stay on.

Yup!

Me too and I have a Rifle shield which is +4 and my hands guards never hit, whats up with that? Oh wait I know. it's because Rifle uses the tuning block which moves the shield further away....

Shoulda gone with a Rifle.

Thanks Fairlanaer. So are you saying that you removed the tunig blocks to solve the issue?

Thanks

Hank

I have the Rifle touring windshield and Vstrom guards on my 1st gen right now. Yes, the guards do hit the big shield when it is down (even with the tuning block in place) when turned full lock. So, don't do that. Make sure to disable the auto retract so it doesn't do that to you and leave the shield most of the way up when you park it where you'll want to lock the steering. Otherwise just don't turn the bars so far.

IMO, the only reason to have the guards and gigantor shield on is for cold weather, in which case the shield would be up at least 1/2 way anyway. I've always thought it looked kinda dumb having that big windshield on the bike and have it tipped way back when it is lowered down. When (if? ) warmer weather comes around, both will come off in favor of a smaller shield and cool wind up the sleeves.

I have the big Rifle shield and the handguards. I leave the shield up, autoretract disabled. They makes slight contact on left side at full lock. It has left a slight scratch on the handguard, no big deal.

Thanks Guy. Now, can you direct me on just how to do that please. I saw the procedure somewhere out there but lost it. It would be great if you can direct me to the right place.
