Well the farkling on Susan's 06 FJR continues. My wife is 5'5" tall so gettng a well fitting bike for touring is important.

I have limited skills but a reasonable idea how to have bike set up.

Here is where we are to date

Suspension - custom lowerd Ohlin rear. They was a space issue as the 06 hangs the rectifier on a bracket by the stock shock. Custom bracket contructed. Front forks raised in triple tree to stops.

Seat - Rich's

Fuel Cell - under contruction - mounts were tricky

Electronics - 2610, Sat Radio, V-1 and J&M CB all integrated with overrides. Custom CB Antenna bracket

2 BMW power sockets - one for vest, one for battery charger

LED Volt Meter

Cruise Control - MC CRuise from Australia this is taking a lot of time and work by our installer and many calls to Australia as they work though the proto type

AUX Lights - no room for Ballasts - at night wife tends to A)not ride or B) follow me as I have a lot of light on my bike (10 forward facing)

Waiting for Bar Backs.

I will post some photos soon

powderhound5 - welcome to the board! Sounds like farkleing is in full swing on your wifes new ride. :clapping:

Just curious as to who is constructing your fuel cell?

powderhound5, welcome and congrats on the wife's bike and farkles. Where you guys at anyway? Just curious. My wife, now officially dubbed "Gaswoman" rides a 2001 FZ1 that I've setup for her. She's 5ft. 1in. barefooted a bit taller w/biker boots on. JB

That sounds like a quite nice setup...

Tell her she's not the only one with height problems... Jill is 5'4" (or 5'2", I forget!) and I'm 5'6" ...<BG>

and Welcome... tell her to jumpright in here .... the ladies are outnumbered and need all the help we can get!

BLM had Susan's bike for a while to use it as a test mule for light brackets and fuel cell. Bill has just done the FC mounts and the light brackets are works of art.

We live in Vancouver, BC

H Marc posted her pic when she received delivery # 1 :) in North America

Yep... we were talking about you and you didn't even know it ! :D

The BLM cell is a nice looking piece of kit for sure. :dribble:

PH,

Do you have any pics of the BLM light brackets? I'm also wondering how Bill made out with a dash shelf? I spoke to him a few weeks ago and he said it wasn't going well.

:yahoo: Oh I knew it alright, I sent the pics to Marc, there was a glitch and I could not post on here or any of the other fjr forums worldwide that had my wife's picture on them.

Susan took her international photo fame pretty well and I explained to her no one would see her and then recognize her.

The next day she is in a delearship and this woman walks over to her ( who she doesn't know) and says, "Are you Susan with the new 06 FJR?" Well there went that theory all to H

The bike is an excellent bike for her and all we need now are the barbacks from Doug (ordered). Susan was on an BMW 1150R before

If you slid the fork tubes up substantially in the triple clamps make sure that nothing bottoms (like the fender or brake fittings) when the front suspension is fully compressed. The suspension will still travel and compress as much as before but you took away some clearance at the top of the travel by sliding the fork tubes up. There isn't a whole lot of extra room at all on my 03 so I don't know what the 06's are like but it is worth a check before she hits a railroad track and bottoms the front fender into the fairing or something. Worse yet, if the front is lowered too much the fairing could actually touch the ground on full compression on a large bump or pothole. The 03 fairing at the lowest point on the chin comes pretty darned close to the ground then the suspension bottoms so it is worth a check again. Not that lowering it is a bad idea, just you might have to look at raising the fork oil level or something to inhibit bottoming the forks since travel was taken away. This is probably not something that is going to be an issue most of the time but could present a serious safety issue if she hits an unexpected large bump or RR crossing or something and it bottoms out out of the blue....no pun intended. You can use a small rachet strap around the lower axle and around the triple clamp to pull the front end down until it bottoms to check the clearances and ground clearances. I would urge you to check clearances at bottoming least a repeat of the fork brace/ABS brake fitting fiasco repeat itself for you.

There is a stop on the forks. You can move them about 15 mm. Still lots of clearance with ull compression

What sort of stop is there? Just curious as to what the 06 looks like as there is no stop of any sort to prevent one from moving the fork tubes up in the triple clamps that I am aware of.

It is sort of a milled ridge or flange. You can only moe the forks up so far and then the flange is there
