Here's a question for you guys that have already bought your Wilbers shock and installed them last year. Lets say its just me out for a average trip a few hundred miles up the freeway. Do I have it at the 1st click. ( I'm getting the 640/625/629 in black and a pair of fork springs, and told Klaus my weight with gear on, and I only ride with wife 5% of time), then click a few more for a more aggressive riding and so on and max clicks with wife and all loaded for a trip?

Does the Wilbers come with custom instructions, or is it a standard info sheet.

Waiting and wondering?

Typically, high end custom suspension stuff comes setup pretty darn close to what you'll need, and they try to put THAT setup in the middle of the adjustment range to give you some latitude in either direction. Checking and setting static sag should be the first thing you do after installation. Then ride it and fiddle the adjusters to your liking. The only other adjustments you've got there are rebound damping and ride height. If it wallows in the rear when ridden at a "spirited" pace through corners, needs more rebound damping. If rear gets progressively more harsh on a long bumpy stretch of road, too much rebound damping. Ride height will depend on what you want. Easier to reach the ground flat footed, go lower on the ride height, but this will decrease ground clearance in the corners and slow down the steering response. Raising ride height will give greater ground clearance, but make the ground harder to reach flat-footed. Steering will speed up, but too much can make it twitchy.

Does that help???

Dave's got it just right B)

When my Wilbers combo (641+625+629) came in last year I installed it, set the ride height a half-inch up and was good to go.

Never had to do any more adjusting. Bike's like on rails.

Does that help???

I understand how it is suppose to work, but,.... did the shock come with written instructions also? And does the it have 22 clicks you can feel and hear?

Thanks, ZZZZZ

The instructions are in German, but if you look you can find a ton of info on the web about how to set up your suspension. Keep in mind this is a very personal set up.

You can feel and hear the 22 clicks on the pre-load adjuster.

You should set pre-load with 2 people and a ruler to get it in the ball-park and adjust from there. Don't bother too much with rebound/compression until you get used to the way the bike feels with the new shock.

Take a look at this Wilbers info

Correct me if I'm wrong, FF, but I think the question was how to determine the base line starting point for adjustments. With a stock shock, settings are usually expressed as '4 clicks out from full closed' or something similar. You have a defined starting point (full closed) and then a measurable adjustment (4 clicks).

With the Wilbers, the shock is already setup for the rider's preferences. Now I'm going to add the bags. I want to crank in a bit more preload. If I add preload for a ride with bags, and wish to take it back to 'standard' (for me) settings afterward, do I have to remember that I added 3 clicks, so I now take back 3 clicks, or is there a marked base line?

Or maybe the Wilbers comes with your custom base line setting expressed as an absolute like '10 clicks out from full closed'. I want to be able to return to the custom setup settings after monkeying with adjustments.
