48 thousand km (30k miles) rear shock is done. Planning on ordering wilbers this winter. I ride mostly solo but have an occasional passenger. I take about 4 or 5 trips a season where i'm fully loaded.

I'm wondering if I should go with the 640 or I should spring for more?

Is anyone with the 640 sorry they didn't step up a model?

This issue really isn't one that a higher end model (i.e., one with more adjustability) is going to do the job better that your basic 640, as long as you're not taking the bike to the racetrack, etc.

As long as you provide the correct data to Wilbers when you order the shock, you should be good to go. Even the 640 is still custom-built to your specs... that is, the internal valving, etc, not just a spring rated to your weight.

The Model #640 was the number 1 choice among the massive Wilbers Group Buy we did earlier this year. There are several options available that enhance it significantly... though some are kinda spendy.

Here's a page off the Group Buy site that may help you determine which Wilbers is best for you, your riding style and environment:

Me, I bought the model #640 with the adjustable remote pre-load option. The latter was important to me personally so I could quickly/easily crank up the pre-load when loaded down with aux fuel/rally gear for a LD run I was doing. Adjusting the pre-load manually can be an ass-pain. Sadly, the remote pre-load option isn't inexpensive, so if you rarely carry a pillion or otherwise don't have the need to adjust your pre-load frequently, then you can order it without the remote hydraulic pre-load, saving a hefty chunk of change. Those times you do have to adjust the pre-load, you'll still have t6o do it manually.

AI too am going to do the Wilbers thing this winter (yes they are long here in snowy Vermont). Thanks for your input Warchild. The preload adjuster thing is what I need as the wife LOVES to ride and I'd always be spending time manually adjusting the preload if I did get it.

If there is enough interest among newcomers (and those who didn't/couldn't participate last time), do I need to set up a second Group Buy for the Wilbers shocks/springs?

Any new info on the issue with the (read shock's) sping?

If the '06 uses a totally different shock, I'd be interested in a group buy for it in the SPRING. Otherwise, I'll be swapping Wilber from the '04 to the '06.

YESSSSS !!!!

Front springs, Qty 1 set

Wilbur with the adjustable height doodad, 1 each

WC I followed the thread the first time, but since I didn't yet have the '05 it just didn't make sense to buy the shock & springs ...

Want money now ???

I for one would be interested. When you did the first group buy the bike was 3 months old and had a scant 5000 km on it so I could not rationalize the purchase of a new rear shock yet.

But.... 14 months old and 35,000 km on it the bike is starting to feel a bit loose. Tweaked the suspension settings earlier this summer and it helped but it could use more.

So Wilburs group buy, I'm in!

 :drinks:  :yahoo: :coolio:

As you previously said you wouldn't do a GB for a very, very long time, I am glad to see your sabbatical is now over ;)

Getting the Wilbers via the G/B was a PITA (Despite all of WC's hard work. None of the delays were his fault or responsibility) when I FINALLY got it installed, I was thrilled with the results.

The height adjustment (I got ALL the bells and whistles) is really great! It actually allows you to change the way you feel on the bike. I found myself lowering it all the way despite being 5'10" and that seems to work best for me--took some pressure off my shoulders (have a bad one from a get-off 18 mo ago) and wrists.

Wilbers and the US rep, Klaus, were unable to handle the response and didn't deal with it too well, but ULTIMATELY, everyone got their gear, and, as far as I know, everyone who installed it, has been very, very happy.

Yes, please. I want one and the group buy price make it very difficult to resist.

I will be in for a group buy this time too Warchild - the FJR's is the first stock shock that has left me wanting more (most lesser bikes have other limitations which make a soggy shock a less obvious problem). ;)

You, sir, are truly a glutton for punishment!

Butt, that said, I'm still lovin' my shock and springs from the last GB.

Well, it would be a lot easier for me this time.... all the web site work is already done, I basically just have to purge the old tables and "light up" the database again.

I should know something today.....

edit: Ok, just got off the phone with Klaus... I'll start a new Wilbers Group Buy thread here shortly...

I personally picked up my rear shock kit. I gave the photo that one of you guys graciously posted which showed the orientation of the hoses necessary for the abs model. Klaus kept it and said he would set up the future orders to that hose orientation n/c if desired. He did all of mine while I waited.
