Does any one have bike set up for 2-UP riding. Stiff spring. Max load weight.

How harsh is the ride when solo ?

Ordered 640 with adj. preload.

I have a 643 on my '03 from the first group buy. Put in the springs, too.

I set the sag for solo and left the comp/rebound where Wilbers put it. I set the sag in the front solo and softened the comp/rebound 1 or 2 clicks.

When two-up or loaded for a tour,I crank in about 2 1/2 turns of shock pre-load and it all seems to work rather well.It would probably be better to re-set the front sag,but I have not tried that.

The ride is firm but not harsh. hard to imagine but easy to ride.

I have every mod I can think of and the Wilbers made the most difference.

I only ordered the shock at this time, maybe front springs later. 640 only has rebound adjustment and preload. Shock set up for 450lbs total. I weigh 210 with gear(at least) its got to be a firm ride.

Anyone else with similar weight set-up?

I remember past posts with springs not being firm enough. But never one too stiff.

Thanks for reply.

What shock specs has Klaus recommended for you?

I called Klaus today to confirm he recieved my fax. He only wanted to verify my passenger and gear weights.

Didn't recommend any settings. Only spoke to him briefly.

I filled in type of riding on group buy order form. Nothing really aggressive.

He said solo ride would be firm. Just trying to decide if it will be a problem.

The beauty of a top shelf shock is that you CAN have your cake and eat it too. A premium shock (set up correctly) should deliver a taught and composed, yet supple ride. It's like freakin' magic when you ride on a premium shock. Suddenly the big pricetag actually makes sense. You don't know what a bad one feels like until you ride a good one. I suspect you'll be pleasantly surprised. My buddy and I had virtually identical R1s, except his had an Ohlins out back. The ride difference was totally unbelievable. Never again did I criticize the price of a good aftermarket shock. Doesn't mean I can afford one, but I respect them. :D

Just curious, would it be insane to buy the wilburs before I take delivery and have the dealer install em for me during make ready. I know it'd be in essence throwing a brand new stock shock away....but if it makes that much diffence of a ride, who wants to wait for em to wear out? And as little as I ride, my god, I'd have the fear the damn thing might never wear out! And I guess, you could always switch em out if you wanted to sell the bike...

It's not yet known if the current setup will fit the '06 (as far as I know). There were changes to the swingarm, and the brake system, so I'd advise you to wait until someone makes sure they fit. What use is the group buy discount if it's a wasted purchase anyway?

A tip-don't toss the stocker, even if used. A substantial recoup of the cost can be realized by reinstalling the oe for bike sale, offered to new buyer at 75-80% of cost, or ebayed/forum classified sale at same % of cost. In any case, potential re-sale helps justify purchase, if not to hostile SO than to self........ :D

You can ask me how I know. Really, go ahead ;)
