Windscreen auto park on 2013

Kidding aside, it's clear Yamaha got rid of the auto park because of the vast majority of comment from owners and tips on how to disable it in previous years. Yamaha is trying to be responsive and put things on the bike people actually want instead of paying for things they don't use. That said you can't ever please 100% of the people, so those who liked it the other way are now complaining. But it's only for 2013 instead of 2002-2012, to the numbers will be smaller for a while.

For those who ride like i do, the auto-park meant dicking with the adjustment after getting it the way I wanted while riding, stopping for gas, getting back on and having to dick with it again. Sure I fine tune it as conditions change but a complete retract park just for a gas-and-go was a royal pain.

Just's the articulation of my reasoning.

So Geo,
This very subject came up (more than once) at CFR, since we had Yamaha Canada at the rally, and (early on) the sober people there thought that you might have a valid point.
How often does this happen? Yamaha people at the rally, not the sober people

IIRC, the last Yamaha Demo truck was at WFO Park City in 2007. So it's been awhile...

Yep. I've been to a good number of FJR owner meetings over the past 7 years of ownership and this is the first time any Yamaha reps have been there. They had 2013's there for test rides, and a good number of folks got good length rides, half an hour slots on real roads, probably enough to make a decision about upgrading to one or not.

The real excitement was the 2014 FZ9 cross plane triple they brought along for show and tell. That thing had hooligan fun written all over it. But it wasn't plated yet, not quite released for sale, so no test rides on that. When I looked at it I saw a reasonably priced alternative to a Ducati Hypermotard, which is the bike I'd really like to bring home (after I hit the powerball).

Here's a link to Cycle World's first look at the EffZed (the show bike was a sexy red color, not flat black like in the article)

WTF George!
Unlike you, I've only had 2 FJRs. The first one having a difficult time trying to keep it's stupid owner on the road on AR 16. The replacement 04 came with the windshield switch fix. I didn't bother changing my first FJR.

I've gotta say that this is all 1 on a scale of 1 to 10. No biggy either way...but is nice to always start out with the screen where you left it last when you parked it.

If you miss the auto retract, you could always thumb the screen down when you park, and thumb it back up when you start out again, just for old times sake.

C'mon George...WTF! Over...

Sorry about that AR 16 thing. I've known that road to bite several people over the years. I've even observed a few going off and actually followed one of them

I'm with you on the windshield. More often than not my stops are for fuel before continuing on, and I'll want it right where it is when I leave again. If it's really important that it be down, it's one pull on the menu switch and one push on the adjustment -- pretty easy.

It's not the end of the world but it is a negative over the previous models. Also, they could have added a volt meter selection out of all the options for the verious screens. Still, it is the best FJR ever.

Yes - that's true. But I still believe that a good electrician will find a "clever" way how to enable this function on gen III - may be by using same parts as on gen II.

Nah. Clever electricians find ways to fix existing problems, not create new ones.

Now seriously, what is the advantage to having the windshield "park" itself in the low position? Other than looking all "Get Smart" cool when you park or first start up? With several of my (aftermarket) windscreens I would hate for the windshield to park itself as it would be way down over the handlebars. And another thing, it sure makes cleaning the inside more of a PITA.

If you don't want it to go down on a Gen II, just unplug the jumper. If you do want it to go down on a Gen III, you don't have the option. For those of us who like it to go down, it's bad.
At least it gives me a justifiable reason for not having a Gen III, I don't have to admit that my Better Half controls my pocket money.
