This was a warning, FJR's are not supposed to be trailered, they don't like it, and never will... The road grimlins had their way with her, and it make take several very long rides to shake them off. :angry2: Remember this was only a warning, next time it will be worse.
This is the absolute twooth!! My W/S survived but my punishment came in another form....a leaky left fork seal. I looked at it, said...."Well, this ain't no big deal!"

F Jr. obviously thought this was not an acceptable reaction on my part (that obviously I had not learned my lesson) and the next day the other fork seal started leaking!

OK, OK....I got it already, no more trailering!

I got back at her tho....did the old rag around the fork seal trick....but just till my little el-cheapo miracle tool arrives! Let her know who she's messing with! :dwarf:

As Geezer wrote, the screws are supposed to break so the windshield doesn't disembowel you if the front wheel hits something. While trailering FJRs is just WRONG, the windshield separating may've had little to do with your tow. It's very easy to overtighten the plastic screws, leaving them pretty weak. Hit it with a bit of turbulence or trailer pounding and they could go away.

+1 to this being an opportunity to get a better windshield. My own favorite is the VStream.

I'm with Checkswrecks on probably overtightened screws. It's real easy to snap those plastic screws off when tightened and it's very conceivable that the last wrench weakened the screws by overtightening.

If you are dying to ride right away, you can actually get some stainless metric screws to attach the other shield and go ride. Or ride without a shield for that matter. The W is only there to look pretty, so you can ride without it. I would suggest getting the proper plastic screws because you do want them to break off when you hit something and go flying into the windshield. Better to bust the shield off than bust your head off.

FYI the P/N for the windshield mask on a 2010 is 3P6-28323-00-P8. The part does come already painted or color-impregnated, so I imagine the part number would vary based on year/color.

You know those little plastic screws are nearly $3 each from cheapcycleparts.com, wonder what the dealers gets for them? Feckin robbers! :angry2: but, by them snapping instaed of the actator motorarms you will have saved about $1275 or more if you would have damaged the motor itself. 21 bucks seems cheap now dosen't it?

Even a simple drop can break the windscreen off...if the drop happens to be into a fairly steep ditch on your right, and things come to rest with the tires the highest point on the bike. It would have taken a leg as long and strong as Shaq's hold it up.
