I just put an 05 screen on my 03. The old screen had a bit of movement with wind and bumps, but the taller 05 screen seems to wiggle around a bit more. Maybe it's just me.. Does anybody else have a windscreen that vibrates and shakes a bit? If so, how did you tighten it up? Looks as if the mechanism that raises and lowers it isn't as tight as it should be. That seems to be where it originates from.

Ideas, suggestions are all welcome.

Just keep slowing down til it stops and then drive at that speed.

.Check all bolts nuts or screws that hold it all together. Time could have got something loose inside.

The stock screen on my '05 did not show any movement but after I replaced with a V-Stream I do get some shake from time to time depending on wind and such. Did you say this was a "tall" screen? If so, then this may just come with the territory of the added wind resistance. The mechanism does have some 'play' in it that I don't think can be removed.

I think they all do as well. Mine has very slight play in the housing, but not very much. I wouldn't want it too stiff anyway.

How much are you talking 03nNJ? Maybe you have something loose in your mechanism mount underneath, or your screws are loose?

On my '06 I have about 3/8+ in. with screen completely down and about 1/4+ in. with it up while sitting still. Appears to have more play on the throttle side. Don't recall the problem before dash replacement...

Remove it ! :D

My 05 screen is very stable, event at high speed. It bend a bit with the wind pressure but that's normal !

I think the screws that hold the screen on get worn. THey are soft plastic. I replaced mine after the third windscreen change because of movement and I think I noticed a difference. I could just be very hopeful though ;-)

Afast,

Awhile back, I had some movement in mine and found that the 2 screws beneath the W-bracket, were bent and loose. They were made of aluminum so I replaced them with stainless steel and this solved the problem. However, there is still some play in the mechanism of about 1/4".

Good luck.

My play is also in the mechanism and wondering if that can be taken out or was not reinstalled properly when dash recall was done...
After having the instrument cluster on my '06 replaced to fix the 17mpg problem, I left the dealer and headed down a fairly smooth street. I immediately noticed that my windshield was shaking, something I had not noticed before. I took it back to the dealer. The mechanic who worked on the bike, someone I know and trust, said that all he did was remove the bolts that hold the windscreen on the arms, that nothing had been done below the fairing. He got a light and mirror, looked around inside, and said everything seemed fine.

Had the windshield been shaking all the time and I just didn't notice, or is something else amiss? It's making me nervous, especially in gusty winds and/or bumpy roads.

I don't think we just didn't notice but I'm sure anxious to find a bike and give it a shake to see another. I think the mechanic where I took it was an on the job trainee or something , certainly no mechanic, as I've had to replace some fasteners that were missing/broke plus retighten windshield plastic mounting bolts and the cover was also loose. I just wonder if he took something apart that he shouldn't have and didn't get it set right like the rest of his work I can visually check/fix...

Thanks for the replys guys. I'm going to take the mechanism apart and see where the play is coming from. Perhaps the teflon washers are the cause, or maybe it's the mounting bolts/bracker under the plastic. Hopefully I'll get the thing a bit tighter.
