This is a neat bike, but the cost of ownership is very high $19,200. Add a set of side bags and a top box and your kicking another $1700. bucks.

You guys have it made in the shade with your bike prices. The MSR on the Feej in Canada is $19,099. I negotiated mine from the EOS price of $16,499 and this was when our dollar was a couple of cents stronger (albeit briefly) than the USD. Problem was: US dealers wouldn't / couldn't sell to canucks. Add the dealer charges and 13% sales tax. Yikes :(

ps - I don't know what the GSA lists for here - but could find out! (it might make you feel better about the price ;) )

WHAT ???? Honda's gonna stop makin the Wing ?! Oh man,.....there's gonna be a fat guy revolt I tell ya....they neeeeed their reverse man!!! Awwww...THE HUMANITIES !!!! No more yellow submarines? Is this like that violins on TV thing?

( Actually Smitty, You look rather dashing in Beemer !!! Flaunt it brudda !!! )

Blessings,

Bobby

Smitty, I'd get that Beemer. Those Adventure GS models are the ****. That whiney final drive ******** is old news already. BMW cleared that up a long time ago, just like Yamaha cleared up the heat issues with the gen 1 FJRs. Besides, even if you do have a problem, BMW service is much better than Yamaha service will ever be. I love my FJR, but lets get real.

A friend has last year's GS and loves it. I do realize that most GS bikes will seldom even see a gravel road. But, coming from the perspective of a guy who started in Appalachian Ohio - my problem with the GS and the other expensive adventure bikes is kinda like those $50,000+ 4WD SUVs. I just can't bring myself to spend 20+ grand on something that will look like an old scratched-up bike or pickup the first time I off-road the damn thing!

Maybe someday, I wonder if there is a place to carry a extra final drive? :dribble: Smitty
Pretty funny! Especially after reading about the BMW's that DNF'ed in the SPANK rally.

Buyer Beware. BMW quality has not caught up with BMW technology.

I'm looking at getting an FJR to replace my 2007 GS Adventure. The GS is a great bike, but just isn't dependable. Too bad it isn't made by Honda, Yam, or Kawi. At less than 30,000 miles I have had a FD failure, ring antenna failure (bike doesn't recognize ignition key) and 3 sets of front brake rotors (will need a 4th set soon). You will also be replacing headlight bulbs on a regular basis. I have replaced 5 so far. None of these problems are specific only to my bike. They are well known problems among R1200 GS riders. Do yourself a favor and read up on the BMW FD issue before spending 20K on this bike. BMW is aware of the problem, but won't publicly say so. However, they just extended the FD warranty to 5 years to cover the failures.

It sure is a shame that you don't get what you pay for these days... With regards to this, I don't know if you ever really did.

Ya know......you are spot on about it being too damned bad. The GS1200 is an awesome bike. I will have one in my garage someday, but due to the reliability issues, it will never be my primary bike, or the one I would do my Iron Butt or LD riding on.

Hey, Greg, you could lay that one over and nobody would know! ;)

BMW means Broken Motor Works.
Been there, done that. Have some friends that tried it, also. Plenty of folks still choosing the hard way, though.

Have fun!
Out here in indian country it means "BRING MORE WAMPUM" !

You get a picture of the final drive intact and not spewing oil on the ground?

They're in demand over on eBay...along with that very rare statement you'd get to say for the first 100-30,000 miles, "I'm a 1200 GSA owner and on my first final drive." ;)

...other than that....one functional and uber sexy beast!

Sincerely,

#1 in the SPANK Rally because of a BMW Final Drive Failure

When did they claim to have fixed it?

What model year was the BMW?

Congrats on your win at the SPANK. I was at the IBA National Meet in Tulsa and fortunately I didn't have another FD problem during my trip to Tulsa with the GSA. I heard stories of several riders on their second FD. I don't want to ride the GSA on the '09 IBR again next year since it cost me 18 hours down time getting the FD replaced in the '07 IBR. I'm looking at farkling up an FJR or ST instead.

Smitty you happen to be sitting on the only other bike that has me wondering how the **** I am going to add it to my garage. I too can flat foo it when I sit on it and the bike speaks to me. I too will own this bike sometime very soon but only when I have heard the final drive issue has been fixed. That could be quite a long wait.
