I musta been thinking about my Goldwing and my wife's Yamaha 650 when I wrote that, they both have petcocks to turnoff. So do the snowmobiles.

Must be some older sleds? The sleds I owned since '06 (with fuel injection) didn't have any fuel shut-offs either.

I'm with Oldryder on winter storage, full tank of non-ethanol fuel with a fuel stabilizer, no issues (knock on wood) come spring.

Not sure I'd go the route of emptying the fuel tank and spraying fogging oil in a fuel tank that houses the fuel pump, may be asking for problems??

For my small engines I've been running SeaFoam for regular use.

When I know the engine won't run for sometime, I drain the tank, then run some non-E fuel through - just enough to start it, flush all E-fuel out, then good to go.

Getting a little "fogging" oil on the fuel pump ain't gonna hurt a thing. C'mon...the thing sits completely submerged in gasoline 100% of its life. What's a little oil gonna do? Make it slippery?

And if you ever had an tank full of rust, a little fogging oil is a cheap investment.

Unless you can get that fogging oil to completely cover the inside of the tank, fine, but I would rather have it full of treated fuel.

Yepper, Mostly older Carb models and I think Polaris was the most stubborn to abandon this. Personally happy this idea crapped out, I always would forgot the stupid thing... crank...crank...crank... oh yeah! oops.

If you guys aren't using amsoil then all your toys are going to break.

Yup, they're old Polaris's, (2) '92 Trail Deluxes. BTW, the purpose of the fogging oil sprayed in the tank isn't to oil the inside of the tank but the propellent replaces the air in the tank so it won't rust. You could use WD40 if you wanted to and get the same result. It's just something I have handy.

Interesting, I've always fogged the cylinders but never the inside of the tank. I add only some Stabil to the tank and never had a rust problem. Then again, I trade-up machines about every 3 or so yrs.

Too early to put to bed. No need to drain gas. Just fill with no-ox add stabil and park. All ready to go if you get a nice day in Jan or Feb

I feel your pain. Took mine for its last ride of the season last weekend. :( Happy I was able to put a little over 8100 on it this season.

Good thing I love to ski, otherwise seeing it sitting in the garage would be too tough to see.

I've never done anything to winterize any small power equipment or bike/car I've ever owned to store it over a NJ winter. (or longer)

I've never had a small power equipment, bike or car give me any fuel related issues after a winter storage either. ( or longer)

My snow thrower sits for 3 seasons and starts right up every winter.

All my batteries last 4 - 8 years without any trickle charger crap.

Seems most people think if steps aren't taken for a short storage that the equipment will self destruct. I don't understand where that comes from. Perhaps to much internet usage.

My 98 FORD Exploder sat for 3 years with little more then 1/4 tank of gas. A new battery and a twist of the ignition is all it took to get it running again. The brakes were noisy as hell until the rust wore off. Oh and I needed some air in the tires. :)
