I'm looking to add an IN-THE-EAR headset for 2 way/cell into my full faced helmet. I've been using the Etymotic ER6i's for quite some time and am pleased with them. I know that Shure makes an in the ear headset for 2 way, but don't know of any others that are stereo AND voice.

What I want to do is a sort of Bluetooth add on, perhaps like the Motorola HS830, so that I'm not tethered to the bike. I'm just not sure that I can disconnect the Motorola headset (buds or speakers?) and make it in the ear.

I emailed Autocom for suggestions. They said that by the end of the year they will integrate Bluetooth into their units. For now, they had no suggestions. And the in-the-ear noise attenuation set seems to be the big hurdle.

Right now, I have NO 2 way in my helmet. I can listen to my XM via FM transmittion from my RoadyXT to my ZEN NANO PLUS 1GB MP3 player (with FM receiver) (now down to about $65) with the Etymotics (who do not have any two way sets).

Has anyone out there jumped this hurdle yet with in-the-ear sets (or other 2 way under-your-helmet headset)? I really would like to get two way in my helmet AND not be tethered to the bike.

Thanks!

I have made several email and telephone attempts (yes overseas calls) in an attempt to contact and preorder this:

Liberty Wireless

But I don't think they are (yet) interested in talking to anyone in the Good Ole USofA.

FJRFencer,

I have been trying to find out if two Scalas can be used for rider-passenger communication. Do you know?

Thanks Jeff, that's quite a find. Going to be REAL pricey, but it seems that if you have everything else closecasting in Bluetooth that this thing will mix it all together for you. Wonder when it will actually be on the market?

I did at least find a microphone and adapter. The Seidio 2 in 1 adapter is on it's way. It's made for TREO phones, and supposed to work on many other units as well. It's a CORDED unit that allows you to plug in any monitors with a 3.5mm plug that you want. Basically, it's a 2.5 to 3.5 mm adapter with an inline mic. I'll let you know how it works. If it works.

Starcom1 has a rather pricey Bluetooth accessory. I'm wondering if I can't get the Motorola adapter and use my Seidio 2 in 1 and make that work cordless. Not really excited about TRYING, because the Starcom1 with Bluetooth is about $430.

I'm not sure how Bluetooth adapters work, so I don't know if I can just get adapters for each item I want to make cordless. Seems that you have to program this stuff, and I don't know if that's even possible. But there appears to be apdapters for non-bluetooth equipment, so I may go that direction. As I buy new electronic farkles, though, I'll be leaning toward Bluetooth, or some sort of wireless capability.

OK I have done the Liberty thing as well. I got an email back (how about you)

Intaride to me

Many thanks for your enquiry.

We will certainly keep you posted as to availability & will also let you know of any introductory offers as well.

Best regards

I have a feeling I will have the same luck as you with them. I am looking for the same thing. A way to hook everything up and make it wireless to the helmet!! There has got to be a way. I am just looking for a GPS with the XM and MP3 built right in. It will be all that I need till I end up getting tickets. But the cops usually leave us riders alone here. Unless you are racing down the road on your rocket . I have looked at the Garmin 2820 with the BT but Garmin says that I cant sync but only 1 device up at a time. That is great, but I want my rider to hear the music and have the intercom features.

Anyother ideas I cant seem to get the perfect thing, except for the Liberty. I want wireless intercom all synced to my Garmin(gps, xm, mp3)

Seems like that will work. However it still looks like driver and passenger will still be connected. I emailed Chatterbox about this and I will advise their response.

I spoke to some electronic buddies last night to see what they might be able to come up with. One of them is thinking about just trying to make something from scratch.

Well we will have to wait on Chatterbox a lil longer

The XB1 is scheduled to be released around December. Suggested retail should be around $450-$500

The driver and passenger will be corded, because of the Bluetooth technology now only allows 1 device recognition.

Sincerely,

Brian

The best that I have seen is wireless to the bike, but rider and driver are wired together. I will take whatever at this point. Didn't mind being all wired up when flying, but now riding I move a whole lot more than just my head.

Only available in one color. At least they do make it in a full face. That 3/4 looks pretty geeky to me. Still haven't read whether or not it's stereo.

370 EUROS (plus shipping from Italy..)

temp357, please let us know more about the helmet after you check it out.

Went to the Dainese store in Costa Mesa during lunch today and checked out their bluetooth helmets.

they provide intercom function between two helmets

mobile hands free kit with stereo headphones

expect to have the battery last 4 to 5 hours of use

did not have any luck setting the headphone up for use with the mp3 player built into my mpx220 phone - apparently the phone has to support bluetooth mp3 headphones

great fit and finish

only available in charcoal (or whatever they are calling it)

$649 for the helmet

another $50 to $75 for tinted visors

Tested the hands free kit while i was there, seemed pretty good. Not sure how good it would work with a lot of wind noise. I took some pictures, but with my dsl down, i don't have any place to post them. i have to see if it'll play mp3 from my samsung sch-i730 which i also happen to use as a gps. Without being able to play mp3's it has limited use to me as i never ride 2 up.

Any accomodation to use your own headset, or does the Dainese helmet have it's own built in speakers and that's all you get?

I don't know that I'd buy a $650 helmet and rip out the headset and put in a different one, but where there is a will, there is always a way? ;)

After doing some more research, it looks like the phone needs to be ad2p compliant to work with the helmet as an mp3 player headphone.

I thought there might be a JACK in the helmet, or an accommodation for different speakers, as in "ear-plug" phones. I didn't want to rewire the whole thing.

I guess you gets what they gives you? No options? No substitutions?

Crap, it's like Yamaha, too. One color....

Big PASS.

No options other than a $50 to $75 tinted shield. The only two inputs are the button on the back of the helmet and a zipper where you open it up to charge it on the bottom liner.

OK so intercome between driver and passenger. Can I also hear my BT GPS? I am guessing that they will not sync up as BT can only sync to 1 other thing at this point. But God I hope I am wrong.

Price is high. . ummm might chance it. . The color doesnt bother me, I can always just get it painted to match the bike.

You guys are looking at some pricey options.

With autocom's new models, the Easy 7 complete system is WAY cheap.

I think their web site has the full blown system for less than 250 beans,

and it has lots more features to play with.
