MM2, Skyway and O'vale -- I suffer with each of you on those gawd awful stretches of road. Sad to say I can identify them all in the full glory of their suckage.

Like that shot of Lake Alpine -- horrid scenery and an even worse road. God, I hate that stretch from Bear Valley down to the bottom of Monitor and over to Topaz. Thank God all the cage drivers are sipping lattes and talking on cell phones in the trendy areas that every road out here presents -- dodging them at least makes the rides interesting. It's amazing that people keep moving here with all these crappy roads.

Now, maybe we could generate a pulse suggesting a high speed run up I-5 through Elk Grove at around 7:30 am in a good morning fog. . . . Nah -- I better not let on about some of our better kept motorcycling secrets.

Yeah...poor MM2 having to deal with the thule fog on I-5. It's always there and I hear it's terrible for sinuses

We live in the Willamette Valley in Oregon..near Eugene. There are so many different types of riding available in this state. We have coast, desert, mountains and not that much traffic if you stay away from Portland!! The down side is we do have a wet winter in the Willamette Valley but if you don't mind getting wet & being cold, it's still great riding! I prefer to wait for the dryer days! :)

Er, certainly not here! :bleh:
The riding where I live is terrible. You don't ever want to move here. Bad traffic, flat roads, farm land....ew yuck...there are always bugs. Spring and Fall have changeable weather and its too hot in the summer. Stay away from this part of Northern California!

I took US 50 from Utah to Elk Grove this past summer... even had to go thru Reno... left a bit of $$$ at one of the casino's.... very very bad!

I agree, the traffic on US 50 in Sacrament is way too crowded and fast, the road up to Yuba City and Napa (to visit more friends) just totally sucks! Boring and bumpy up Rt 99. Also had a awful time riding on all those Northern Cali roads.... especially Rt 20 up thru the redwoods and back down 101 and 1..... just way too many hills and curves!

Can't wait to go back! Those roads up there are totally awesome! :D

The "armpit" of Texas Amarillo. Only place you drive in a straight line for 200 miles and never run off the road. It's cold in the winter, hot as hell in the summer and a calm day is any day the wind isn't blowing 25 to 30 MPH.

Have I got the place for you!!

1. 95+ degrees.

2. 110% humidity.

3. No breeze whatsoever.

4. Rains everyday all afternoon.

5. Loads o' traffic if you pick the wrong roads.

6. Every road is straight.

7. Every road is flat.

8 Every road is boring.

9. 15 and 95 year olds are your driving companions.

10. Did I mention 110% humidity??

Yes, welcome to South Florida in the summer. In the winter, only 5 / 10 apply and you can actually ride. But still! It sucks here for riding!

This is why I dont want to put any miles on my bike..... Yeah right.

Western Washington is the absolute worst place to ride!

It ALWAYS rains.

It's ALWAYS too cold.

The traffic is terrible.

There are NO good roads anywhere in the state!

Just best if you don't come here.

Worst place for street riding has got to be Alaska. Short riding season, few paved roads, tons of animals, gas is probably expensive too.... why some of us dream of riding up there is pretty crazy.

I'm hoping to go sometime in the next 5 years.... still gotta get other stuff checked off like the IBR.

I think I have a pretty good idea of the best places to live in the US for riding, but I was wondering what people thought are the worst places?
I have to say that the Northern IL. area SUCKS! Tons of traffic, few good roads, weather is always a big question. Twisties, what the hell are those? There are some good roads in SW WI, and western IL, but it is 1-1.5 hours to get there at best.
The Dallas Fort Worth area is pretty crappy with the cagers thinking they own the friggin road.Every so often some roadraging idiot decides to punch someones ticket with their grill. It really sucks here in summer.Hot as hell and then some

Oh so lovely to drive that way for 8+hrs in August heat or get caught in a storm with hail the size of baseballs, see all the speed traps on 287 but just a short drive from there hitting the town of Texline let the fun begin as you rocket to the Enchanted Circle!

Fairbanks, Alaska...4 months of not-Winter and 8 of Winter...Summer bugs, bad roads, the worst drivers, but no bums...why?...they spend a day or two out or sleeping in building entry's at -50F or outdoors with Summer mosquitoes and they soon disappear...Snow Birds (Summer Residents) show up here for Summer rides and think they have done something special..."I did Alaska" etc., wow!, come up for a visit in Winter to see and write the rest of the story...stay away unless you have to just have to leave your shithole and move to a far better place...(42 yrs here and would never leave to put up with the idiot herd BS you all deal with every day down there).

Gary in Fairbanks

IMHO, perhaps because I am a VINTAGE RIDER,( ie.,not Old), there are no bad places to ride, just some that are better than others. To be able and free to ride anywhere in the USA is a blessing. This is not the case in other locations in the world. Think about that!!
