^^^Coming from a guy who abandoned his GenI on the side of a lonely highway for the temptations of a GenIII. What a loser!!
Our Fellow FJR Forum Member Bret Gross knows full well that if he ever decides to sell "Miss Lucy Liu" (BG call her "Lucille"), Papa Chuy Viejo will come running ese! JSNS!

Right . . . this has been "very helpful" . . . "thank you" . . . one and all . . . .

I wanna know what bike you had that let you know what perfection felt like.

I've never felt it. I've always had to adjust....

I think you need a BMW....
Actually Russ when I gave Cameron Diaz a ride on my Vespa 150 it was perfect, well at least perfect enough for this Decrepit Old Fart! jes' sayin' and nuff said, Geritol!

Cameron Diaz drives me crazy....

Going CLEAR back to the OP's original concerns about the BMW GS: if it makes him feel any better, I'll admit that once on a really tight windy road in Colorado i was outpaced (just barely) in the corners by a guy on a GS.......

The embarrassing part: one of the last things I saw before he got a few corners ahead were those big black KNOBBY TIRES fading away....

@Spud:

Right . . . that's why the GS is so popular . . . torque in the turns . . . so if it was in the turns . . . with this ***glitchy*** FI thingie going on I wouldn't have even tried . . . . Standing stop . . . monster 1300 inline 4!!!!??? But, he did have the knobby tire part going . . . .

I moved from the Sacramento area in 2012 after O'keefe chased my *** all over Skaggs Springs...and caught me.

I'm now outside Pittsburgh where my skillful but slow driving keeps me a step behind O'face, Wheaton , El Toro Joe and FYB!

It seems no matter where I go, FJR derelicts just emerge from the woodwork. Wouldn't trade it for the world. If you ever go to Sacramento, say hi to Mike for me. About 20 guys should answer.

On the serious side, I put the G2 throttle tube and adjusted the slack out of the throttle cables on my buddy's 06. Worked like a charm, and even I will ride it now.

As pointed out in post #6 by HRZ-spend some time on cable adjustment...The cables themselves have no adjustment- they are fixed length..It is the cable housing that is adjustable...If in an effort to get all the slack out of the cable you make the housing to long or short the cable will bind inside it and make for an abrupt throttle. Also, try raising the idle to 1200-this made a big difference on my scoot...plus it starts instantly with less than 1/4 revolution. and a G2 and BJM and spring unwind and wrist training......and

GhidorahX: While your punctuation usage would have flunked you out of Mrs. Brownlee's 5th grade English in Podunk, SoCar -- where I went to school -- your prose reminds me of my late high school years, wandering the woods with a mind full of organic expansion agents.

I get a big grin reading your skittering stream of consciousness. (Say hello to your cousin Godzilla for me.)

@lnewlf:

Thanks for the follow-up . . . it would be great if a simple cable adjustment would smoothen out the throttle response; but "wrist training"??? how much more do I have to do to get this problem straightened out???

@Uncle: "Skittering stream of consciousness" . . . OK, I accept . . . and consider Godzilla got your message; but dudes, chopping comments on my "English" . . . nah . . . sorry to say you are looking at the outcome of being raised by a technical writer--in the English language . . . not 'merican slanglish . . . American English . . . .

. . . so far, everything seems very well-behaved . . . no hints of untapped wildness waiting to be unleashed . . . just sturdy competence with very nice cornering behaviors.
The "untapped wildness" lives between 5,000 RPM and redline. The 0-60 time on showroom stock FJRs (no ECU flash, no PCV, no funky G2 tube) is in the low 3's. The GS models go upper 3's and two up is certainly going to increase that as well.

Twist the wrist on hold it there, It's like...

@Denver:

Thanks for the info . . . well, like I mentioned, no radar detector makes it difficult for unfettered friskiness in SoCal . . . it's all about vibes here . . . if you ride in a comatose fashion the CHP are not "called" . . . but if you spark it up . . . suddenly they are everywhere . . . happy to chase and have the expensive discussion about "safety" . . . . Probably for the sake of breaking the engine in I'll have to try to get it closer to redline . . . .

You mentioned "ECU flash," --what is that about?? a quick and dirty way to reprogram the FI mapping??? And, "PCV" ??? does that mean pulling the PCV valve??? I got the G2 gambit . . . might get there . . . . Funny comment in your sig line . . . haven't gotten there yet, but, certainly the "space" around the battery is "woefully inadequate" . . . I understand why the LD guys get a fuseblock to get all the lights and stuff running. I've got two pigtails for electric vest hooked up . . . and that's it . . . no more room . . . .
