I added a new photo gallery of the moveable side vents today. Click here to see them:

Cool.

Thanks Fred.

Kinda FUGLY in the heat position, ain't it?

So when are we gonna get a report of how much heat is directed out when in the open position?

You're slacking!

Good job fred -- nice pics.

When in the 'winter' position (extended), are the fastener sockets very visible? Is there a cover? (if not, im sure there will be one soon!)

Thanks again.

Sorry about that Scooter. Hope you can forgive me.

Here is the air temp stopped at idle with the panel open. I also measured it while riding. It dropped to about 110 degrees at a steady 70mph. Ambient air temp was 82 degrees.

Anything else you want to know? Man, you guys are just too easy to please. :D

You gotta understand the nature of this IR gun. It measures surface IR temps, not air temps. So it really won't give an accurate differential between open and closed as the surface temps don't change much. What does change is the amount of air that flow between open and closed.

To explain this is simpler terms, when the panel is open warm air comes out. When it is closed, nearly no air flows except what normally flows around the exterior of the bike. I can testify that when you open them up, you do indeed feel hot air flowing out around your knees and when you close them it stops.

I suppose if you insisted I could map the airflow changes in the wind tunnel with color smoke and take digital video of it. Or not...

Skooter anybody ever tell you that you have an abnormally large head?

By all means. I do insist!

Skooter anybody ever tell you that you have an abnormally large head?
Only the women that I let see it!

:D

If all thats involved is an opening and closing of the air space between plastic and frame, then I would imagine it wouldn't be too tough to create the same thing on older models. Hmmmmmm....

I played with the adjustment on my ride on sat. To me on an 80 degree day, in riding pants, (not your ass-less chaps TWN) With the fairing in the out position I did have to bend my leg about three inches further out to put my knee in the wind than with the fairing closed. I did not notice a change in the heat (or lack there of)from the bike. The change or increase in heat was from a lack of airflow over my body. This adjust may help a little in cooler weather.

Good point. I hadn't thought about that. The outer panel will indeed deflect more air away from your legs when moving if it is extended.
