Gee, you'd think that as a professional, the one who made contact would (should) have recognized the driver in front was unsure and given a little extra space. At least that's what we are taught and made to adhere to by the CHP. They no longer call them accidents, but incidents, and if it could have been avoided, the fault is ours for NOT allowing the other driver "space" to decide. But, I digress....
I'm glad it all worked out and you were able to walk through this life lesson with her. What a kool Dad! Remind her that neither "retail therapy" nor ice cream will help. Hmmmm, group hug at the "Orangevale's"!
In CA as far as I know you can't share a lane with another vehicle unless it is a motorcycle. I have State Farm with my autos and if I have to go to court they will send an attorney to represent me as it is all part of the deal. Don't seem fair your daughter had to defend herself but sounds like she did ok though considering. Just a good learning lesson and you are to be proud of her and how she handled the whole thing. Still, the evidence doesn't lie and the officer sounds like he was in the wrong. Could have been worse though and is a good thing your daughter is not injured. Stay safe, PM. <><
