The CBS coverage was pretty good! They had really good camera work, and I thought the intro was excellent. They introduced you to the riders and the racing without overdoing it. Of course, Greg White is still an idiot and can't pronounce the rider's names, but he did have a good cheat sheet or something on rider stats, and when he calmed down, he was ok. I'm actually impressed. I was expecting NASCAR style coverage where you see more of the commentators than the race.

Agree, pretty darned good. The on-bike-camera shot of Dani going down got me outta my seat -- we knew it before the commentators.

Good racing (even with the rain) -- too bad for Colin -- never heard what Nicky's bike problem was.

I'm assuming since the delayed broadcast was over in the US about 8 hours ago, that its OK to post a bit more detail.

Nicky's primary problem was his rear tire.

Actually, most of those on Michelin's had tire problems. Edwards was really irked about his crash. He flat out blamed Michelin and said they should step up and take responsibility. He also said that he loved Michelin and that he did not want to change to another manufacturer at this point in his career. He said that his tires had 20 laps on them and they looked brand new. Everyone on Michelins was saying that the compound was too hard for the conditions.

The interviewer offered a Michelin excuse for their picks, and Edwards said "Hey, excuses are like ********. Everyone's got one." He was an unhappy camper for sure.

Pedrosa, Lorenzo, and Edwards were all off. Hayden was at the rear. All four on Michelins. Melandri crashed out too, but he's just phoning it in right now. Marking time for one more week.

Dani broke his finger, and fractured his ankle. At least thats what the early reports have said. edit: Finger and wrist fractured, but ankle just sprained. decisions about riding at Laguna Seca will be made by Wednesday AM if they stick to their schedule.

Bridgestone seems to have made the better tire picks.

Guintoli was a surprise making 6th with his traction control turned off. How cool is that?

Thank You Mr Toro for your humbleness !! I'm a glass half full type, (annoying *******s arent we  ) and it was good not to eat my sole food today ! The racing was pretty good and the commentating pretty good also. And since I cant afford cable, it was awesome to stay home and watch from the comfort of my ol lazyboy too !

Blessings,

Bobby

It would be nice to hear Nick Harris but I agree! Hopefully Dorna will work something out with these broadcasters for next year. We actually got to watch a race on raceday! :yahoo:

SpeedTV is horrid. <_<

I really like the world commentators in the feed that Speed uses, but Greg White is a million times better than the play by play guy CBS used last year. I think he could get pretty good at that job with more experience.

I hope Crash Cash can change the thread title now that there are spoilers in here.

A lot of folks don't get to watch their recorded racing for a day or two sometimes.

As for the coverage quality, CBS just takes the world feed, they have no control over the camera selection. But their commentators (presenters for you Brits) were better than I recall from previous efforts. You could tell that even if they didn't follow the series personally, at least they'd done some homework.

Not at all like Bob Jenkins years ago covering the first or second Formula One USGP at Indy, when he described on the air David's Coulthard's pass on "that other guy."

I don't think Jenkins covered any more F1 racing.

When does it stop being a spoiler? Just curious. The race and the delayed broadcast are long over.
It's not unusual for me to watch a race midweek or later, much later if I've been traveling. My weekends can get pretty busy. And I may be weird in a lot of ways, but I don't think this is one of them. :D

My God, that was awful, wasn't it? Absolutely embarrassing. I could never go into a job -- any job -- that unprepared. I still can't believe he did.

Watching Pedrosa crash was just scary. In the replays, I'm still not sure why the front went out. For the conditions, he was flying. Just seemed to write a check his tires couldn't cash.

Stoner always seems to know where the edge of his traction is and he rides it.

Pedrosa said that he just touched his front brake and it locked up. He said it was totally unexpected. Edwards and others on the Michelins said that the compound was too hard, and that it was like riding on glass the whole time. Edwards said that his tires looked new after 20 laps. If you've ever looked at race tires after 20 laps, you know they shouldn't look new if they're doing their job.

Stoner said that he saw Dani running away, but he knew he didn't have the grip to keep up with him, so he let him go. Dani had built a 7 second lead in 5 laps. That's phenomenal, especially when you remember how poorly Dani rode in the rain in his first year in Premiere class.

Obviously Stoner and the others were right about the grip. Stoner said his tires needed warming up, and with the hard rain at the start of the race, they were warming slowly.

It sure threw the whole championship into further turmoil. Its going to be an exciting run to November.

Yeah, Pedrosa's pull away from the field was phenomenal, but it just seemed to have that vibe like he was going to throw it away. Nice of him to make the championship exciting again. ;) Now he's hurt, Stoner is riding inspired, and Rossi is Rossi. Dani is going to have a hard time getting back to the front of points race.

I agree. Look at how Lorenzo has been riding since his injuries. I thought he could pick it up and continue after his crash, but he cashed it in and went to the garage. After the race he said that he figured he was going to crash out in lap 2, or 3, or 4, and so when he crashed in lap 2, he quit. He was on Michelins too, and he was another of the Michelin riders who said the compound just wasn't working. He was sliding all over the place. He rode like a contender before his injuries. Since the concussion, he's just decided to take the season as a learning activity.

FWIW, since I personally believe that Nicky is getting dissed by Repsol, HRC, and Michelin, I was not sorry to see Repsol do so poorly in this particular race. If they put all their effort into Dani, and then Dani's poor judgement throws it away, let them live with it. Meanwhile, Dani is one of the most serious guys out there. I think he will eventually win a championship.... but I agree with you that it isn't likely to be this year.
