Got injured at work in July "Right Arm". And one week befor acepted delivery of my 04FJR at home.

All this time I could not ride it. And I need to ride it to get my Texas Safety inspection done & Title Transfer done.

My doctor told me to work my arm. Soo Hop on my FJR got gas & drove on over to get that Safty inspection done.

I was wondering if this is normal; Im in 5th gear 3000 RPM's & going 70MPH?

Gave it a little bump on the throttle seem like in 2 sec I was at 80MPH.

Yep you got to respect the power of an FJR.

Bottom line I enjoyed my long-long awaited ride.

That really is a great example of "adding insult to injury"! I recommend a long road trip to get your universe back in balance. <_<

OLD BOY-

While there may be a LITTLE BIT of variation in road speed VS engine RPM at any speed,

70 MPH @ 3000 is way off.

The other posters on this subject were stating 70 MPH @ 4000 RPM. That is in line with my findings as well.

At 3000 RPM my '05 is reading 50 MPH on the speedo.

I had 3/4 full gas tank-Reg gas, empty side bags "but where on bike",Im around 240lbs.

And going on level Hwy with no wind. Sunny day. I look at my speed and it was 70MPH on the money.

Then i look at my Tack it was on the 3000 mark. I let off throttle pull clutch in tried to shift up. Nothing up.

So I was in the highest gear it has. I then gave it the gas and got it back up to 70mph. Again look at Tack it was again 3000 rpm. I know the differance in engine sound of 3000 ver's 4000. Engine was not reving much and i was going 70 mph.

I could feel a hell of alot of wind at 70mph. Wind at 50mph is not anything like at 70mph.

This was the first time I was on my 04FJR. And I was just thinking at cruising 70mph and only 3000 rpm this is good on gas.

Old Boy,

Obviously you need to go on a long ride just to make sure your readings are accurate. I believe you (Gen 1 bikes are geared differently), but I think a nice 200+ mile ride would add more "data". Then, just to be sure, do it again the next day. Repeat as necessary until your arm feels better and you are absolutely sure of the rpms.

Needless to say, you will have to try to repeat this weekly or more frequently, because you can never be too sure.

I love first ride reports. I can see the smile on your face.

While I like the electric windshield and I look forward to the use of the heated grips, my favorite part is the right twisty thing. Be safe.

I always ride at 4000rpm on the highway, and the spedo says 75mph ... haven't checked it for error yet however.

My 2004 was 3200 at 55 mph and 3000 at 50. In the Bin'O'Facts is the gearing chart. Something's not normal with your 3000 at 70 comment. Since these are shaft drives, suspect either your reading or one of the two gauges. Try a ride with a GPS and you ought to know the answer fast.

The idle is set 1100 Rpm?

Would the Syn-oil Yami dealer told me to use be a factor?

I know that when i put syn-oil in my Hemi - Truck engine not only did I notice more power alot better MPG.

I was going at 70mph & when I got it up to 80mph Tach was then reading 4000rpm.

Hey all I know is at 70mph im only using 1/4 throttle & had a hell of alot more throttle & Tach to go.

When I bump throttle I only went Half way on my throttle and counted 1,2 was at 80mph.

Then had to back off to I think 3/8 throttle at 80 mph.

I cruise with not to much RPM sound from my FJR engine at 70mph.

My 04 has very low miles on it?

You know what its like with other Texas drivers behind you on Texas Hwy & Freeways?

I was going 70 and it is what it is.

May be the bike will get like 4000RPM at 70mph after more miles on it?

Bottom line "LETS RIDE".

70? Why going so slow? Are there more than 3 gears on the FJR? Hmmm....mine never seems to leave 3rd.....

I would have it checked out because 100% of all Gen 1 FJR's read different than yours at 70mph
Well if I ever get a chance to put it on a Dino. You need a Dino to test it?

For now it go's putt-putt. And I was pushing my self to even take it up to 80.

Chicken? Dam right. Just don't like tickets.

+1 :clapping:

There's something seriously wrong with your gearing. You should probably take it to a dealer and ask to have it replaced with a new set of cogs. You really don't want to be at speed and have your transmission doing funny things on ya. ;)

really.

If there was something wrong with my gears? It would make strange sounds. And other signs of excessive vibrations.

Might even have shifting problems ect. It makes a clunk when I go from Nutral to first gear?

May be I should pay for a complete new trans? Since it has this clunk sound?

really.
