When I look at my scuffed up, heavily modified, well-worn and used but much-loved Galaxy blue '05, I don't see a lot of cash coming out of it, ever, but I do see a dependable, good running, fun, custom-designed-just-for-me bike that I don't anticipate ever getting rid of as long as I can ride at all. I don't know how many years of the kind of riding I've been doing are left for me, but I think the old girl can match me for longevity. I just upgraded the suspension, the engine was pretty much rebuilt a couple years ago, all the Gen I-specific farkles on her are money long gone. The Trooper-modified cans, the scratches, the stickers all over the plastic from all the cool places I've been and things I've done, and of course the 90K miles on the clock, all add to our personal connection, but don't do much for "resale value." Who cares? It's still more than all the motorcycle I can handle, it's comfortable, familiar, and super fun; I'm happy.
So a thread like this one doesn't scare me a bit. Let her sit on a showroom floor for the next 2 years? Or five? Hell no. I'll be sitting on her for at least that long, I hope, and enjoying every mile.
