hey, dude, where you goin? I'm just following you, dude......now where do we go?

I'd like to know WHY? It looks like lighter trucks and buses are able to continue. I suspect there's a sign saying "No Trucks" (Trucks ist verboten?) and they have no choice. Typically highway departments will post signs on the roadway without posting on the approaching ramps.

However, their "solution" is rather risky behavior!

From the voice of experience. I've had the local PD stop traffic so I could back up and turn around because I was already past the "point of no return" like these guys.

Can you run that by me one more time?

say that again, dude.

Can you run that by me one more time?
Follow the bouncing ball:

I am a commercial driver.

1.) On more than one occaision I have reached the bottom of a ramp or completed a turn before the signs were visible that the roadway was closed (or at least closed to commercial traffic for: Tree trimming, construction, etc.).

2.) Those responsible for placing warning signs (Highway Dept., State Contractors, whatever) are known for pacing that signage "beyone the point of no return" for large vehicles. I have had to wait for the flagmen or police to come and avert traffic so I could back up and detour.

3.) Hence my question, "Why"? City buses are passing, but all large trucks are having to detour...and that stupidly and wrecklessly. If the divided portion of the road is not passable by commercial vehicles, then why is there not a sign on the approace road (that we see as a ramp) warning the drivers of those vehicles while they still have time to detour safely?

Uh..... I think he asked only because you double posted...in the same post...<BG>

I wont' mention it if you wont' tell anyone that I spend most of yesterday troubleshooting my desktop computer...

Dang thing just would not turn on... even took the power supply out to the shop and had it checked..

Guess I've been using the laptop too long... I totally forgot there was a start button on the front of the tower... I only turned on the rear power switch... and wondered why nothing worked...DUH!

Lay off the crack pipe, dude. I haven't even started drinking yet and I'm seeing double.

Been there done that, #2. Backed up 3/4 of a mile because of a low overpass that wasn't marked till you were that far from the off ramp. Makes you wonder why they even post signs.

I always liked **** like that. State of michigan permit dept will approve a permit knowing you're to high for the area you're running, then you get a ticket because you couldn't clear **** and had to block traffic :angry03:

Also all posted deck heights are just a general guideline. You most measure your load to verify clearance, even then It's your butt when you hit a 14'7" bridge with a measured 14'2" load.

Yep 25 hundred in fines and over three grand damage to the load that was supposedly 5" lower than the posted hight.

Part of the reason I gave up on oversized loads. ;)

Sheesh. It's just not much fun to crack on a dude that doesn't realize you're crackin' on him.

Let's come back to this thread on Dog-Pile Friday.

It's a date.....I'll bring my whaleskin tights if I get them back on time.

OR. . .It could be something simple. Like a Wal-Mart Distribution Center that told those guys to leave because they showed up 5 minutes too soon for their appointment time.

At least it was daytime, I've had to do similar turns at night because of things that shoud have been posted but weren't. And sometimes the 13' 6" tall trailer you are pulling just won't fit under that bridge marked 14' 8" either. BTDT, but it looked suspicious so I stopped and got out before I hit it. Had to back up almost a mile to find a suitable place to turn around.

David

It's obviously an everyday occurrance there. The other traffic took it as a matter of course... :dribble:
