WTB: Some time back, I saw a quad array of digital vacuum gauges for the TBS job.  It was a "home-made" unit, by a very competent guy, obviously working on his own.  The four digital readouts were mounted in a lab-enclosure box, neat but not fancy.  The price and performance factors were noteworthy, over the commercial units.

Now that I have both motive and opportunity, presently I can't find that unit, or his web page.  Anybody with a better Google-Fu (or more memory) than I have will be welcome to assist in the search here.  I recall that the guy had researched for gauges that did just what we need for the TBS, and put them together for a fair unit price.  I would like to buy that product.

Thanks.

Hey Bob,

DING!  DING!  DING!  DING!
We have a WINNAH!

With an Honorable Mention going to Rbentnail here.  I think he had it too, but Bob came back with the link.

That's the gadget that I remember.  I don't know if there are better units out there, but I'm all in favor of any guy making good stuff for the bikes.  I'm going to give this one a try, although for right now, my FJR is running really well.  I just wanted to get the Digi-Sync in house, while I have the chance; I will get to it before too long.

Thanks, guys.    :coolsmiley02:

I posted with a query about that gauge a couple of years ago.

Nobody had used it and there were no reviews.  I posted about another one as well.

Discussion in that thread covered mechanical dial gauges as well.  I thought about trying one of these but elected to build a four channel differential liquid manometer for a couple bucks worth of PVC tubing, some zip ties, scrap lumber and a few ounces of transmission fluid (pic below).  I won't deny that it would be nice to be able to measure absolute rather than relative vacuum sometimes.  Also nice to have a compact unit you can store in a drawer.  I would be interested to know what sort of precision/reproducibility the digital one offers.  Also how it does with signal damping.  This can be a big problem with digital gauges when trying to measure an inherently unstable signal.  Damping may be accomplished electronically or mechanically with a large vacuum reservoir or small in-line orifices (which is what I did with the one I built).

Let us know how it turned out.
