I have a 2000 Yamha Bear Tracker 250 that has been sidelined in my shed for years. Originally it would not idle so I took the carb out and cleaned it up a few years ago. Like a lot of my projects I lost interest in it and the carb sat for a few years apart in a dry pan that was covered. Now I am trying to get it back together so I can go out to the desert and ride it around. I have it back together thanks to a video on You Tube and it runs. It idles great now but I have a differnet problem. When i give it gas it falls all over itself and will shut off. I did replace the float last week with a new unit. I also tested for vacuum leaks with a can of carb cleaner while it was runnng and there were no changes in the idle.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I could use a little help.

I suspect the emulsion tube is plugged. It's the piece the main jet screws into.remove it and you will find a tube with a series of holes in it. clean all the holes and i'll bet it runs fine.

I just buttoned everything up and took it for a ride. It runs well and every once in a while it will stumble. I am going to run it this week and see how it goes. I will check the emulsion tube the next time I have it apart. I bet it is a bit clogged.

Some ATVs will run like crap if the original airbox is not installed and complete. The Kawi 250 and 360 models are prime examples. If you will be riding the Yamaha frequently you might try running some fuel system cleaner (carb/injector). The miracle fluids sometimes help.

Hardey Abelson quads don't have that problem..

Think about it.. When was the last time you heard of the great Motor Company's quads ever breaking down?

Gotta get that quad running nicely, John. You give a girl some wheels for the weekend and you can ride my WR250. This is a Iimited time offer however. Next trip, I will be stronger and not be so keen on riding the Honda. Counting the days though. This is going to be a fun trip.
