My dealer still has several in St. Louis. I think he's still trying for a high price though. If you're interested, try emailing --- kkeen at donelsoncycles.com and make an offer.

Thank you, I appreciate the lead. In talking with my local dealer (who wants 20,000), he said he could set up a regular R1 with the shocks, etc. a lot cheaper.....but the slipper clutch on the LE is supposedly a Yamaha Factory Racing product unavailable in the aftermarket....

dunno....I am also lusting over a BMW K1200S.....about the same dollars......whaddya think....do you need a second sporty bike if you have an FJR?? Maybe I should just stop riding with those sportbikers.. :) Decisions, decisions....

Ride Safe,

Ron

I don't know how 'unobtainium' the slipper clutch is... but it does work completely flawlessly. I still blip the shifts, but I did screw up a downshift at the track last week, and that sucker worked like a friendly ghost.

Between an R1 and a super-K? Very different bikes, IMO. The R1LE is very harsh on the street, much moreso than my '04 was. The things that make it brilliant on the racetrack, make it a bit abusive on the street. The beemer should be in a different league with respect to comfort. Compared to an R1, Hayabusas and ZZR1200s feel like luxury yachts. (haven't ridden the super-K or ZZR1400 yet, but I assume they're similar)

On the R1, it's also difficult to make a corner on public roads entertaining, unless you're hitting it WAY, WAY faster than you should. Hard to train yourself to meter your speed in the corner to sight distance instead of cornering ability. Hitting a 20mph corner at 75may be no problem for the bike, unless there's an obstruction in the road just out of sight.

If you have track days in your future, though... lordy, lordy is it fun lettin' that sucker eat! BAM! :yahoo:

As brilliantly fast as FJRs feel on nice, twisty sweepers... it feels huge, heavy and wildly underpowered on the track, in comparison.
