Once you get used to the "effortlessly fast" FJR, everything else seems slow!

I will be keeping my order. Since I put my deposit down in October, and my birthday is in October, and they say they "expect to finish deliveries...by November 30, 2011", well then its even more of a birthday present to myself than it was before. I'm hoping bikes will start coming in September or October, the weather riding back from Texas will be much nicer!

I know getting this bike is a minor thing in comparison to the devastation in Japan; still its one more reason I wish the Japanese people well, and hope for a strong recovery as quickly as is safe and humanly possible.

And Don, I was looking at heading up to Alaska next summer as well...I really want to ride the Dalton to Prudhoe!

AVGeek, Jorstin-Steve and Papa Chuy will be putting our Alaska Ride Itinerary up under Regional Ride Planning after the first of the year. Since we are traveling with our 14 year old sons, we may be traveling at less of a pace than you prefer.

However, you are certainly welcome to join us with the four of us for as much or as little of the trip as you like. We four also will use either the Alaskan Marine Highway or British Columbia Ferry Service for one of the two directions of travel.

 
I will have to think about it now. I can use the bucks elsewhere and don't really "need" another bike. I was excited about the bike and thus placed the order. But Nov. will be 14 months after placing the order, so has kind of taken the bloom off the rose for me. So I'm undecided right now and will have to look at pros and cons for me personally.

+1, Gunny! I'm in the same boat doctorJ, I too am looking at this one long and hard now. I still can't escape the fact it's heavier than a R1200GS and with less power too!
And..., the Supa-TenRay's premium fuel requirement and no switch to turn off the (damned) ABS...

Strewth...! Especially, heavily-loaded 2-cylinder motorcycles... :huh:

In America, shaft-drive = touring -- when the Super-Ten gets all loaded-down and with a big windshield -- it may be "suck-holing" just to 'get down the road'...? :(

And there may not be much economy, either...? :unsure:

I downloaded and copied the letter and the refund letter, so I'll give it a bit of thought over the weekend. I hate this for the dealers and Yamaha too. But it seems many will keep their orders, and some others will take the place of those opting out. I may well take the plunge later in next year or so with this bike, but for my riding the FJR and the ST1300 fill the bill very well.

DocJ, been following you here and at the Super-T forum. As I just posted over there, there is no way that Yamaha could again offer the bike at the PDP price. I see it as low risk that even IF I didn't want to take delivery in November, that PDP position will easily be worth the $500 to somebody else.

 
Dont know if this has been mentioned earlier in this thread but some may want to consider this....what if your dealer bites the dust like so many have recently and takes your cash along with them. I think it may be best to get your money back now and re-up when the bike is really close. You have to know that Yamaha has a lot of the parts to make the bike already waiting to assemble. Its just like the issue with the jap cars that cant be built, if it takes 10,000 parts and you only have 9900, you cant build. point is that Yamaha upon availability of whatever parts are not on hand right now, will be able to build and ship quickly at that point.

One can only imagine that by November a lot of guys will want to spit the hook for any number of reasons. Could be because its freezing *** out, could be because personal situations have changed.

Go get your money back and watch the availability go way up and the final delivery price come down. I have seen this happen so many times in the car Biz where all the initial buzz keeps the first deliveries of hot cars high and then several months later its like nobody cares about the former hot car and they all of the sudden offer the cars at less than the ones that were sold early on.

also what if another manufacturer comes up with a contender for the same type of bike and you wind up pissed because you did not get your deposit back and are married up to the bike that may or may not come this year.

There is nothing wrong with having all your money tied up in cash.

So...It's not that I have anything against the S10. I don't, but I don't get all the fevor over the first year production of any vehicle. They are full of recalls and have issues that end up getting fixed in later generations. As far as the price...GCR may be right on the money (I made a pun). Anyone remember the Honda S2000? Click Here for Wikipedia When it first came out, I remember dealers were adding about $4k to the sticker calling it a "market adjustment." A couple years later, they could barely give the cars away and stopped production after just 10 years. They blamed the economy, but the Mazda Miata is still going strong. American consumers are funny about things and plenty of decent bikes have met their demise due to our "hard to nail down" buying habits.

The bikes being delayed may cause a bunch of people to bail, and it may not, but if it does, I wonder what that does to the value of the bike. It would really piss me off to buy a bike for full MSRP and 6 months later, dealerships end up selling the bike for $2-$3k less.

Well, you are likely correct. My price is the best around from D & H cycle, but I'd add around $2000 in farkles. I know the price could go up for many reasons so there are lots of factors for each person to consider. I am planning to get remarried soon but thankfully to a neat lady who is financially independent on her own, but there are always some changes needed i.e. outdoor storage building, parking pad etc. So adding a third bike to my stable is lower on the priority list. I haven't completely decided against the Super Tenere so will have to smoke on it a while. I go back and forth about it. I can pull a few thousand out of other investments but just don't know if that is wisdom.

Oh yeah, this statement "the first year production of any vehicle" I wanted to address since it is not a new production bike. It has been made and sold in other countries and been tested extensively by many riders, so this statement is not as accurate for this bike as it may be for many new bike models i.e. K1600 by BMW etc.

Yes, I have $500 tied up at my dealer and there's a risk they could close. There's also a risk that I could get hit by a meteor or Buick.

But against that risk, I got the D&H price at my dealer doing a match, and am very confidant that nobody will get the bike again at that PDP price, especially in the DC area. If the bike comes in and I don't like it, I sure won't lose money, I probably can make money selling my PDP position.

btw, since these are PDP bikes, there won't be new availability, as every one coming to the US will have a customer and Yamaha can point any PDP cancellations to the overseas markets where these bikes have been selling well. The Europeans, Aussies, and South Africans love them. And as this & DocJ pointed out, the bike's first year was over a year ago. There were a couple of minor teething issues for the first bikes, and those were addressed.

The bikes being delayed may cause a bunch of people to bail, and it may not, but if it does, I wonder what that does to the value of the bike. It would really piss me off to buy a bike for full MSRP and 6 months later, dealerships end up selling the bike for $2-$3k less.

Many dealers where selling the bike for $2000 off retail... or just bellow cost..... If anyone shopped at all NO ONE would pay retail...

I dont agree with the recall statement.. This bike was in development for four years. And by the time we get ours it will be in production for more than two years. There where one issue that I know about the rear rack that broke on a few models. The called in a batch and replaced all of them with a new model of wrack. On many (first year) things I would agree with you, but with this motorcycle I feel 100% confident that the "first year" bugs are thoroughly ironed out !! ;)

On a little different topic............. Do you guys like the WHITE model ? Its growing on me, I like it..... your thoughts? If it was offered, would you change your mind on your purchase and go with the white model Super Tenere?

You guys can go down to your local BMW dealer and be riding the best adventure bike out there. And of course I am talking about the BMW R1200GS Adventure. NO waiting... No, give me your fricking money *** wipe, I will call you when it gets here!!! :lol: :lol: :lol:
