Heard from a Yamaha and other bike dealer that the

redone

royal * Venture will have a 1700 cc motor similiar to the 2009 VMax,albeit retuned. Interesting??

About time the VMax gives a little something back to the parent of the lineage. Would be nice to see a reborn, updated version of the 86-93 styling come back too. I am not a fan of the 1930's styling the current Venture has morphed into. It just looks old. A refresh of this and I would be a buyer.

Schweet looking old style Venture! Is that still in the garage? Or a previous mount?

It would be tough to compete against the Goldwing. Very established product with an almost cult-like following.

It would be about time, particularly since Kawasaki has introduced their new 1700cc Voyager, a very nice, modern, touring bike.

great pic and a great bike. I have 2 1980XS1100Gs and wish I had your Venture also. Agree with Scooter about the GW cult and that it wud be difficult for a redone Venture to undercut the GW.

But, it sounds like Yamaha (Star) is going to add to their V-twin cruiser/tourer line up. Perhaps they think there is a market segment beyond the large displacement V-twin (leather-fringe-chaps crowd) and under the price point of the 'Wing. There is another generation of rider growing into the touring market, though I would think they'd be more interested in a sport-touring bike.

Didn't Yamaha previously offer a touring bike with a V-four?

The '09 Royal Star is a V-4 -- for the beenie group. Something like 79ci; 97hp & 89ft/lb.

A ridding bud of mine had a Venture like the one in MNFJR05's post. It was a low budget GW with few trade-offs. On all sane rides it never lacked for power or handling, it just needed a bit more ground clearance. My friend loved his Venture and hated to have to give it up.

Looking forward to riding the Kawasaki Voyager.

Proven 1700cc engine with EFI, 6 speed tranny, belt drive, and all the bells and whistles. Obviously meant to compete with the Harley Glides, but at about $5k less.

I passed one of those on my way to work Friday morning, and thought fondly of what that motor had recently become...

Judging by the recent refreshes (FJR, V-Max), it seems Yamaha might have the right people on the job to engineer the right product for the market. In today's competitive and economically challenged environment, there's not much future in trial and error, or overpriced merchandise. Hopefully, it will be just the right combo of comfort and capability between the FJR and a Wing....

38K miles. In the garage as we speak. Under going a middle driven gear rebuild. Bad bearing. Other than that still runs like a top. In very good condition for a 20 year old bike.

My wife and I have started to think about our next bike. It will be a touring bagger. At the Chicago Show, we sat on the Gold Wing, Harley Ultra Classic and the Venture. My wifes top choice was the Venture. I couldn't believe it. I thought oh no! This thing is so top heavy and feels like it weighs 80 tons, and it's not EFI. How am I going to talk her out of this? Good thing is we don't have any intention of a purchase soon.

If they revamp that TANK, I might have to consider it again.

My wife and I are talking about the next fun vehicle to buy in a couple years. We talked Wing, but then I rented a Shelby Mustang convertable. Decided a Mustang GT convertable (fast enough and with the top down almost as much fun as a Wing) was the ticket. Almost as much luggage space too.

I like the old Venture much better than the cruiser-like version. And I like cruisers.
